एष विन्ध्यॊ महाशैलः पयॊष्णी च समुद्रगा आश्रमाश च महर्षीणाम अमी पुष्पफलान्विताः ॥ ३-५८-२१ ॥

'Over there lies the mighty Vindhya mountain; yonder flows the river Payasvini, making its way toward the sea. In that direction are the hermitages of the ascetics, filled with diverse fruits and roots.' ॥ 3-58-21 ॥

eSa vindhyò mahAzailaH payòSNI ca samudragA AzramAza ca maharSINAma amI puSpaphalAnvitAH ॥ 3-58-21 ॥

एष पन्था विदर्भाणाम अयं गच्छति कॊसलान अतः परं च देशॊ ऽयं दक्षिणे दक्षिणापथः ॥ ३-५८-२२ ॥

'This road leads to the land of the Vidarbhas, while that one takes you to the country of the Kosalas. Beyond these roads to the south is the southern country.' ॥ 3-58-22 ॥

english translation

eSa panthA vidarbhANAma ayaM gacchati kòsalAna ataH paraM ca dezò 'yaM dakSiNe dakSiNApathaH ॥ 3-58-22 ॥

ततः सा बाष्पकलया वाचा दुःखेन कर्शिता उवाच दमयन्ती तं नैषधं करुणं वचः ॥ ३-५८-२३ ॥

'Addressing Bhima's daughter, O Bharata, the distressed king Nala repeated those words to Damayanti again and again.' ॥ 3-58-23 ॥

tataH sA bASpakalayA vAcA duHkhena karzitA uvAca damayantI taM naiSadhaM karuNaM vacaH ॥ 3-58-23 ॥

उद्वेपते मे हृदयं सीदन्त्य अङ्गानि सर्वशः तव पार्थिव संकल्पं चिन्तयन्त्याः पुनः पुनः ॥ ३-५८-२४ ॥

'Afflicted with grief and her voice choked with tears, Damayanti spoke these piteous words to Nala:' ॥ 3-58-24 ॥

udvepate me hRdayaM sIdantya aGgAni sarvazaH tava pArthiva saMkalpaM cintayantyAH punaH punaH ॥ 3-58-24 ॥

हृतराज्यं हृतधनं विवस्त्रं कषुच्छ्रमान्वितम कथम उत्सृज्य गच्छेयम अहं तवां विजने वने ॥ ३-५८-२५ ॥

'O king, as I think of your plight, my heart trembles, and all my limbs grow faint. How can I leave you in these lonely woods? stripped of your kingdom and wealth, without a garment, and worn down by hunger and toil?' ॥ 3-58-25 ॥

hRtarAjyaM hRtadhanaM vivastraM kaSucchramAnvitama kathama utsRjya gaccheyama ahaM tavAM vijane vane ॥ 3-58-25 ॥
