दर्भचीरं निवस्याथ दण्डाजिन विभूषितः पूर्णे पूर्णे तरिरात्रे तु मासम एकं फलाशनः दविगुणेनैव कालेन दवितीयं मासम अत्यगात ।। ३-३९-२१ ।।

'Clad in grass garments and equipped with a black deerskin and a staff, he subsisted on withered leaves fallen on the ground. During the first month, he consumed fruits at intervals of three nights, and in the second month, he extended the interval to six nights.' ।। 3-39-21 ।।

english translation

darbhacIraM nivasyAtha daNDAjina vibhUSitaH pUrNe pUrNe tarirAtre tu mAsama ekaM phalAzanaH daviguNenaiva kAlena davitIyaM mAsama atyagAta || 3-39-21 ||
