[ज] भगवञ शरॊतुम इच्छामि पार्थस्याक्लिष्ट कर्मणः विस्तरेण कथाम एतां यथास्त्राण्य उपलब्धवान ॥ ३-३९-१ ॥
'Janamejaya said, "O illustrious one, I wish to hear in detail the story of how Arjuna, the virtuous hero, acquired the celestial weapons."' ॥ 3-39-1 ॥
english translation
[ja] bhagavaJa zaròtuma icchAmi pArthasyAkliSTa karmaNaH vistareNa kathAma etAM yathAstrANya upalabdhavAna ॥ 3-39-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकथं स पुरुषव्याघ्रॊ दीर्घबाहुर धनंजयः वनं परविष्टस तेजस्वी निर्मनुष्यम अभीतवत ॥ ३-३९-२ ॥
'Please describe how Dhananjaya, that mighty tiger among men, entered the solitary forest, full of energy and fearless, to achieve his goal.' ॥ 3-39-2 ॥
english translation
kathaM sa puruSavyAghrò dIrghabAhura dhanaMjayaH vanaM paraviSTasa tejasvI nirmanuSyama abhItavata ॥ 3-39-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकिं च तेन कृतं तत्र वसता बरह्मवित्तम कथं च भगवान सथाणुर देवराजश च तॊषितः ॥ ३-३९-३ ॥
'And, O foremost of the learned, what did Arjuna do while residing there? How were the illustrious Sthanu and the chief of the celestials pleased by him?' ॥ 3-39-3 ॥
english translation
kiM ca tena kRtaM tatra vasatA barahmavittama kathaM ca bhagavAna sathANura devarAjaza ca tòSitaH ॥ 3-39-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएतद इच्छाम्य अहं शरॊतुं तवत्प्रसादाद दविजॊत्तम तवं हि सर्वज्ञ दिव्यं च मानुषं चैव वेत्थ ह ॥ ३-३९-४ ॥
'O foremost among the twice-born, I wish to hear all of this with your favor. You are omniscient and know everything about both the divine and the human realms.' ॥ 3-39-4 ॥

etada icchAmya ahaM zaròtuM tavatprasAdAda davijòttama tavaM hi sarvajJa divyaM ca mAnuSaM caiva vettha ha ॥ 3-39-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअत्यद्भुतं महाप्राज्ञ रॊमहर्षणम अर्जुनः भवेन सह संग्रामं चकाराप्रतिमं किल पुरा परहरतां शरेष्ठः संग्रामेष्व अपराजितः ॥ ३-३९-५ ॥
'O Brahmana, the battle that once took place between Arjuna, the foremost of warriors who was never defeated in combat, and Bhava, the great deity, was extraordinarily unparalleled.' ॥ 3-39-5 ॥

atyadbhutaM mahAprAjJa ròmaharSaNama arjunaH bhavena saha saMgrAmaM cakArApratimaM kila purA paraharatAM zareSThaH saMgrAmeSva aparAjitaH ॥ 3-39-5 ॥
