तस्य नाशं विनाशं वा जरया मरणेन वा अनर्थम इति मन्यन्ते सॊ ऽयम अस्मासु वर्तते ॥ ३-३४-३६ ॥

'When objects are lost or disappear due to old age or death, it is called distress. This distress, O king, has now befallen us.' ॥ 3-34-36 ॥

english translation

इन्द्रियाणां च पञ्चानां मनसॊ हृदयस्य च विषये वर्तमानानां या परीतिर उपजायते स काम इति मे बुद्धिः कर्मणां फलम उत्तमम ॥ ३-३४-३७ ॥

'The joy that arises from the five senses, the intellect, and the heart when directed towards their respective objects is known as pleasure. This pleasure, O king, is, in my view, one of the finest fruits of our actions.' ॥ 3-34-37 ॥

english translation

एवम एव पृथग दृष्ट्वा धर्मार्थौ कामम एव च न धर्मपर एव सयान नाथार्थ परमॊ नरः न कामपरमॊ वा सयात सर्वान सेवेत सर्वदा ॥ ३-३४-३८ ॥

'Thus, O king, one should view virtue, wealth, and pleasure in their proper sequence. One should not devote oneself solely to virtue, regard wealth as the ultimate goal, or pursue pleasure alone. Instead, one should strive to achieve a balance among all three.' ॥ 3-34-38 ॥

english translation

धर्मं पूर्वं धनं मध्ये जघन्ये कामम आचरेत अहन्य अनुचरेद एवम एष शास्त्रकृतॊ विधिः ॥ ३-३४-३९ ॥

'The scriptures prescribe that one should pursue virtue in the morning, seek wealth at midday, and enjoy pleasure in the evening.' ॥ 3-34-39 ॥

english translation

कामं पूर्वं धनं मध्ये जघन्ये धर्मम आचरेत वयस्य अनुचरेद एवम एष शास्त्रकृतॊ विधिः ॥ ३-३४-४० ॥

'The scriptures also prescribe that one should pursue pleasure in the early part of life, seek wealth in the middle, and focus on virtue in the later years.' ॥ 3-34-40 ॥
