[य] सवाध्याय एषां देवत्वं तप एषां सताम इव मरणं मानुषॊ भावः परिवादॊ ऽसताम इव ॥ ३-२९७-३१ ॥
'Yudhishthira answered: "The study of the Vedas constitutes their divinity; their asceticism is the conduct befitting the virtuous; their mortality is their human condition; and slander is their impious behavior."' ॥ 3-297-31 ॥
english translation
[यक्स] किं कषत्रियाणां देवत्वं कश च धर्मः सताम इव कश चैषां मानुषॊ भावः किम एषाम असताम इव॥ ३-२९७-३२ ॥
'The Yaksha asked: "What constitutes the divinity of the Kshatriyas? What practice of theirs resembles that of the virtuous? What is their human attribute? And what practice of theirs is akin to the impious?"' ॥ 3-297-32 ॥
english translation
[य] इष्वस्त्रम एषां देवत्वं यज्ञ एषां सताम इव भयं वै मानुषॊ भावः परित्यागॊ ऽसताम इव ॥ ३-२९७-३३ ॥
'Yudhishthira answered: "Arrows and weapons constitute their divinity; the performance of sacrifices is their conduct akin to the virtuous; the liability to fear is their human attribute; and the refusal to offer protection is their impious act."' ॥ 3-297-33 ॥

[यक्स] किम एकं यज्ञियं साम किम एकं यज्ञियं यजुः का चैका वृश्चते यज्ञं कां यज्ञॊ नातिवर्तते ॥ ३-२९७-३४ ॥
'The Yaksha asked: "What is the essence of the Sama in sacrifice? What is the essence of the Yajus in sacrifice? What is the refuge or support of a sacrifice? And what is that which a sacrifice cannot do without?"' ॥ 3-297-34 ॥

[य] पराणॊ वै यज्ञियं साम मनॊ वै यज्ञियं यजुः वाग एका वृश्चते यज्ञं तां यज्ञॊ नातिवर्तते ॥ ३-२९७-३५ ॥
'Yudhishthira answered: "Breath (life) is the Sama of the sacrifice; the mind is the Yajus of the sacrifice; speech alone glorifies the sacrifice; and the sacrifice cannot do without speech."' ॥ 3-297-35 ॥
