[यक्स] किं सविद आदित्यम उन्नयति केच तस्याभितश चराः कश चैनम अस्तं नयति कस्मिंश च परतितिष्ठति ॥ ३-२९७-२६ ॥

'The Yaksha said: "What is it that causes the Sun to rise? Who are they that move with him? Who brings about his setting? And in whom is he finally established?"' ॥ 3-297-26 ॥

english translation

[य] बरह्माद इत्य अमुन नयति देवास तस्याभितश चराः धर्मश चास्तं नयति च सत्ये च परतितिष्ठति ॥ ३-२९७-२७ ॥

'Yudhishthira answered: "Brahma causes the Sun to rise; the gods accompany him; Dharma brings about his setting; and he is established in Truth."' ॥ 3-297-27 ॥

english translation

[यक्स] केन सविच छरॊत्रियॊ भवति केन सविद विन्दते महत केन दवितीयवान भवति राजन केन च बुद्धिमान ॥ ३-२९७-२८ ॥

'The Yaksha asked: "By what does one become learned? By what does one attain greatness? How does one come to have a successor? And, O king, by what is intelligence acquired?"' ॥ 3-297-28 ॥

english translation

[य] शरुतेन शरॊत्रियॊ भवति तपसा विन्दते महत धृत्या दवितीयवान भवति बुद्धिमान वृद्धसेवया ॥ ३-२९७-२९ ॥

'Yudhishthira answered: "By the study of the Srutis, one becomes learned; by ascetic austerities, one attains greatness; by endurance, one acquires a successor; and by serving the elders, one becomes wise."' ॥ 3-297-29 ॥

english translation

[यक्ष] किं बराह्मणानां देवत्वं कश च धर्मः सताम इव कश चैषां मानुषॊ भावः किम एषाम असताम इव ॥ ३-२९७-३० ॥

'The Yaksha asked: "What constitutes the divinity of the Brahmanas? What is their practice that resembles that of the virtuous? What human qualities do the Brahmanas possess? And what among their actions resembles those of the impious?"' ॥ 3-297-30 ॥
