पास्यामि तावत पानीयम इति पार्थॊ वृकॊदरः ततॊ ऽभयधावत पानीयं पिपासुः पुरुषर्षभः ॥ ३-२९६-३६ ॥
'“Let me first quench my thirst,” said the bull of the Bharata race. With that, he rushed forward to drink.' ॥ 3-296-36 ॥

[यक्स] मा तात साहसं कार्षीर मम पूर्वपरिग्रहः परश्नान उक्त्वा तु कौन्तेय ततः पिब हरस्व च ॥ ३-२९६-३७ ॥
'Then the Yaksha warned, “O child, do not act rashly! This lake is already under my protection. Answer my questions first, and only then may you drink and take as much water as you need.”' ॥ 3-296-37 ॥
english translation
[वै] एवम उक्तस ततॊ भीमॊ यक्षेणामित तेजसा अविज्ञायैव तान परश्नान पीत्वैव निपपात ह ॥ ३-२९६-३८ ॥
'Vaisampayana continued, "Thus confronted by the Yaksha of boundless power, Bhima, without answering the questions, drank the water—and the moment he did, he fell dead on the spot."' ॥ 3-296-38 ॥

ततः कुन्तीसुतॊ राजा विचिन्त्य पुरुषर्षभः समुत्थाय महाबाहुर दह्यमानेन चेतसा ॥ ३-२९६-३९ ॥
'Then, thinking that his brothers had long since left him behind, Yudhishthira waited patiently. Repeatedly, the king asked himself, "Why are the two sons of Madri delayed? Why does the wielder of the Gandiva also tarry? And why does mighty Bhima, endowed with great strength, linger? I must go and search for them!"' ॥ 3-296-39 ॥

अपेतजननिर्घॊषं परविवेश महावनम रुरुभिश च वराहैश च पक्षिभिश च निषेवितम ॥ ३-२९६-४० ॥
'And speaking thus, that foremost of monarchs—the illustrious Yudhishthira—entered the vast forest, where no human sound could be heard. The woods were home to deer, bears, and birds, adorned with lush green trees.' ॥ 3-296-40 ॥
