देशकालौ तु संप्रेक्ष्य बलाबलम अथात्मनः नादेश कालॊ किं चित सयाद देशः कालः परतीष्यते तथा लॊकभयाच चैव कषन्तव्यम अपराधिनः ॥ ३-२९-३१ ॥

'One should act with consideration of place and time, and be aware of one's own strengths and weaknesses. Undertakings that disregard these factors are unlikely to succeed. Therefore, always consider the place and time before deciding on forgiveness. Sometimes, offenders should be pardoned out of concern for public opinion.' ॥ 3-29-31 ॥

english translation

एव एवंविधाः कालाः कषमायाः परिकीर्तिताः अतॊ ऽनयथानुवर्तत्सु तेजसः काल उच्यते ॥ ३-२९-३२ ॥

'Such times are designated for forgiveness. Outside these occasions, it is appropriate to exercise might against transgressors.' ॥ 3-29-32 ॥

english translation

[दरौ] तद अहं तेजसः कालं तव मन्ये नराधिप धार्तराष्ट्रेषु लुब्धेषु सततं चापकारिषु ॥ ३-२९-३३ ॥

'Draupadi continued, "Therefore, O king, I believe that now is the time for you to exercise your might!"' ॥ 3-29-33 ॥

english translation

न हि कश चित कषमा कालॊ विद्यते ऽदय कुरून परति तेजसश चागते काले तेज उत्स्रष्टुम अर्हसि ॥ ३-२९-३४ ॥

'The sons of Dhritarashtra, the avaricious Kurus who continually harm us, are not deserving of forgiveness at this moment. It is fitting for you to assert your strength.' ॥ 3-29-34 ॥

english translation

मृदुर भवत्य अवज्ञातस तीक्ष्णाद उद्विजते जनः काले पराप्ते दवयं हय एतद यॊ वेद स महीपतिः ॥ ३-२९-३५ ॥

'The humble and forgiving are often disregarded, while the fierce can dominate. A true king is one who wisely employs both strength and forgiveness, each according to its appropriate time.' ॥ 3-29-35 ॥
