तपसा गुरुवृत्त्या च भर्तुः सनेहाद वरतेन च तव चैव परसादेन न मे परतिहता गतिः ॥ ३-२८१-२१ ॥

'Through the power of my asceticism, my reverence for my elders, my unwavering love for my husband, my steadfast observance of vows, and by thy grace, my path remains unhindered.' ॥ 3-281-21 ॥

english translation

पराहुः सप्त पदं मित्रं बुधास तत्त्वार्थ दर्शिनः मित्रतां च पुरस्कृत्य किं चिद वक्ष्यामि तच छृणु ॥ ३-२८१-२२ ॥

'It has been said by the wise, endowed with true knowledge, that by walking but seven steps with another, one forms a bond of friendship with one's companion.' ॥ 3-281-22 ॥

english translation

नानात्मवन्तस तु वनेचरन्ति; धर्मं च वासं च परिश्रमं च विज्ञानतॊ धर्मम उदाहरन्ति; तस्मात सन्तॊ धर्मम आहुः परधानम ॥ ३-२८१-२३ ॥

'In honour of the friendship I have formed with thee, I wish to speak a few words—do thou listen. They who have not mastered themselves gain no true merit by merely passing through the four stages of life— that of the student, the householder, the forest-dweller, and the renunciate.' ॥ 3-281-23 ॥

english translation

एकस्य धर्मेण सतां मतेन; सर्वे सम तं मार्गम अनुप्रपन्नाः मा वै दवितीयं मा तृतीयं च वाञ्छे; तस्मात सन्तॊ धर्मम आहुः परधानम ॥ ३-२८१-२४ ॥

'The virtuous declare that by one path of righteousness, all attain the same end. Let no one yearn for a second or a third path—for this is why the wise uphold righteousness as the highest good.' ॥ 3-281-24 ॥

english translation

[यम] निवर्त तुष्टॊ ऽसमि तवानया गिरा; सवराक्षर वयञ्जन हेतुयुक्तया वरं वृणीष्वेह विनास्य जीवितं; ददानि ते सर्वम अनिन्दिते वरम ॥ ३-२८१-२५ ॥

'Yama said, "Desist, for I am pleased with thy words—framed in fitting sound and sense, and full of reason. Ask for a boon, O lady of faultless form—anything save the life of thy husband, and I shall grant it to thee."' ॥ 3-281-25 ॥
