यौवनस्थां तु तां दृष्ट्वा सवां सुतां देवरूपिणीम अयाच्यमानां च वरैर नृपतिर दुःखितॊ ऽभवत ॥ ३-२७७-३१ ॥
'And beholding his daughter, now come of age and radiant like a celestial damsel, yet unchosen by any suitor, the king's heart grew heavy with sorrow.' ॥ 3-277-31 ॥
english translation
[राजा] पुत्रि परदानकालस ते न च कश चिद वृणॊति माम सवयम अन्विच्छ भर्तारं गुणैः सदृशम आत्मनः ॥ ३-२७७-३२ ॥
'And the king said, "Daughter, the time has come to give you away in marriage — yet no one comes to seek your hand. Therefore, choose for yourself a husband who is your equal in virtue and character.' ॥ 3-277-32 ॥
english translation
परार्थितः पुरुषॊ यश च स निवेद्यस तवया मम विमृश्याहं परदास्यामि वरय तवं यथेप्सितम ॥ ३-२७७-३३ ॥
'Whoever wins your heart, let him be made known to me. Choose freely, according to your will — and I, after due consideration, shall bestow you upon him.' ॥ 3-277-33 ॥
english translation
शरुतं हि धर्मशास्त्रे मे पठ्यमानं दविजातिभिः तथा तवम अपि कल्याणि गदतॊ मे वचः शृणु ॥ ३-२७७-३४ ॥
'Do thou, O auspicious one, listen as I recount the words I have heard recited by the twice-born sages.' ॥ 3-277-34 ॥

अप्रदाता पिता वाच्यॊ वाच्यश चानुपयन पतिः मृते भर्तरि पुत्रश च वाच्यॊ मातुर अरक्षिता ॥ ३-२७७-३५ ॥
'A father who does not bestow his daughter in marriage incurs reproach. A husband who fails to unite with his wife in her season is likewise blamed. And a son who does not protect his widowed mother is also held in dishonor.' ॥ 3-277-35 ॥
