नेयं माया नरव्याघ्र रावणस्य दुरात्मनः तद आतिष्ठ रथं शीघ्रम इमम ऐन्द्रं महाद्युते ।। ३-२७४-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'Vibhishana reassured Rama, saying, "This, O tiger among men, is no illusion of the wicked Ravana! Ascend thou this chariot quickly, for this, O thou of great effulgence, belongeth to Indra!"' ।। 3-274-16 ।।

english translation

neyaM mAyA naravyAghra rAvaNasya durAtmanaH tada AtiSTha rathaM zIghrama imama aindraM mahAdyute || 3-274-16 ||

hk transliteration

ततः परहृष्टः काकुत्स्थस तथेत्य उक्त्वा विभीषणम रथेनाभिपपाताशु दशग्रीवं रुषान्वितः ।। ३-२७४-१७ ।।

sanskrit

'The descendant of Kakutstha then cheerfully addressed Vibhishana, saying, "So be it." Mounted on his chariot, he charged fiercely toward Ravana.' ।। 3-274-17 ।।

english translation

tataH parahRSTaH kAkutsthasa tathetya uktvA vibhISaNama rathenAbhipapAtAzu dazagrIvaM ruSAnvitaH || 3-274-17 ||

हाहाकृतानि भूतानि रावणे समभिद्रुते सिंहनादाः सपटहा दिवि दिव्याश च नानदन ।। ३-२७४-१८ ।।

sanskrit

'As Ravana, too, advanced to meet his opponent, a loud wail of despair rose from the creatures of the Earth, while the celestial beings in heaven let out a mighty roar, accompanied by the sound of large drums.' ।। 3-274-18 ।।

english translation

hAhAkRtAni bhUtAni rAvaNe samabhidrute siMhanAdAH sapaTahA divi divyAza ca nAnadana || 3-274-18 ||

स रामाय महाघॊरं विससर्ज निशाचरः शूलम इन्द्राशनिप्रख्यं बरह्मदण्डम इवॊद्यतम ।। ३-२७४-१९ ।।

sanskrit

'The encounter that then took place between the Ten-necked Rakshasa and the prince of Raghu's race was exceedingly fierce. Indeed, the combat between them was unmatched.' ।। 3-274-19 ।।

english translation

sa rAmAya mahAghòraM visasarja nizAcaraH zUlama indrAzaniprakhyaM barahmadaNDama ivòdyatama || 3-274-19 ||

तच छूलम अन्तरा रामश चिच्छेद निशितैः शरैः तद दृष्ट्वा दुष्करं कर्म रावणं भयम आविशत ।। ३-२७४-२० ।।

sanskrit

'The Rakshasa hurled at Rama a dreadful javelin, which resembled Indra's thunderbolt and seemed like a Brahmana's curse on the verge of being spoken. Rama, however, swiftly shattered the javelin into fragments with his sharp arrows. Upon witnessing this incredible feat, Ravana was filled with fear.' ।। 3-274-20 ।।
