नाब्राह्मणस तात चिरं बुभूषेद; इच्छान्न इमं लॊकम अमुं च जेतुम विनीतधर्मार्थम अपेतमॊहं; लब्ध्वा दविजं नुदति नृपः सपत्नान ।। ३-२७-११ ।।

sanskrit

'O child, one who wishes to conquer this world and the next should never be without Brahmanas. Indeed, a king, having obtained a Brahmana who is knowledgeable in both religion and worldly matters, and who is free from passion and delusion, can overcome his enemies.' ।। 3-27-11 ।।

english translation

nAbrAhmaNasa tAta ciraM bubhUSeda; icchAnna imaM lòkama amuM ca jetuma vinItadharmArthama apetamòhaM; labdhvA davijaM nudati nRpaH sapatnAna || 3-27-11 ||

hk transliteration

चरन नैःश्रेयसं धर्मं परजापालनकारितम नाध्यगच्छद बलिर लॊके तीर्थम अन्यत्र वै दविजात ।। ३-२७-१२ ।।

sanskrit

'Practicing the dharma that leads to the highest good, Which involves protecting the subjects, Bali did not find in the world Any other sacred place than the twice-born.' ।। 3-27-12 ।।

english translation

carana naiHzreyasaM dharmaM parajApAlanakAritama nAdhyagacchada balira lòke tIrthama anyatra vai davijAta || 3-27-12 ||

hk transliteration

अनूनम आसीद असुरस्य कामैर; वैरॊचनेः शरीर अपि चाक्षयासीत लब्ध्वा महीं बराह्मण संप्रयॊगात; तेष्व आचरन दुष्टम अतॊ वयनश्यत ।। ३-२७-१३ ।।

sanskrit

'For this reason, the desires of Vali, the son of Virochana, were always fulfilled, and his wealth was never exhausted. Although he acquired the entire earth with the help of Brahmanas, he faced destruction when he began to act wrongfully towards them.' ।। 3-27-13 ।।

english translation

anUnama AsIda asurasya kAmaira; vairòcaneH zarIra api cAkSayAsIta labdhvA mahIM barAhmaNa saMprayògAta; teSva Acarana duSTama atò vayanazyata || 3-27-13 ||

hk transliteration

नाब्राह्मणं भूमिर इयं सभूतिर; वर्णं दवितीयं भजते चिराय समुद्रनेमिर नमते तु तस्मै; यं बराह्मणः शास्ति नयैर विनीतः ।। ३-२७-१४ ।।

sanskrit

'This earth, with all her wealth, does not remain loyal for long to a Kshatriya who lives without the guidance of a Brahmana. However, she, who is surrounded by the ocean, bows in reverence to him who is guided and instructed by a Brahmana.' ।। 3-27-14 ।।

english translation

nAbrAhmaNaM bhUmira iyaM sabhUtira; varNaM davitIyaM bhajate cirAya samudranemira namate tu tasmai; yaM barAhmaNaH zAsti nayaira vinItaH || 3-27-14 ||

hk transliteration

कुञ्जरस्येव संग्रामे ऽपरिगृह्याङ्कुश गरहम बराह्मणैर विप्रहीणस्य कषत्रस्य कषीयते बलम ।। ३-२७-१५ ।।

sanskrit

'Just as an elephant in battle loses its strength without its driver, so does a Kshatriya's power diminish without the guidance of Brahmanas.' ।। 3-27-15 ।।

english translation

kuJjarasyeva saMgrAme 'parigRhyAGkuza garahama barAhmaNaira viprahINasya kaSatrasya kaSIyate balama || 3-27-15 ||
