बरह्मण्य अनुपमा दृष्टिः कषात्रम अप्रतिमं बलम तौ यदा चरतः सार्धम अथ लॊकः परसीदति ।। ३-२७-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'The sight of a Brahmana is unparalleled, and the might of a Kshatriya, too, is unmatched. When these two unite, the whole earth itself willingly yields to their combined power.' ।। 3-27-16 ।।

english translation

barahmaNya anupamA dRSTiH kaSAtrama apratimaM balama tau yadA carataH sArdhama atha lòkaH parasIdati || 3-27-16 ||

hk transliteration

यथा हि सुमहान अग्निः कक्षं दहति सानिलः तथा दहति राजन्यॊ बराह्मणेन समं रिपून ।। ३-२७-१७ ।।

sanskrit

'Just as fire, growing fiercer with the wind, consumes straw and wood, so do kings, in conjunction with Brahmanas, vanquish all their foes.' ।। 3-27-17 ।।

english translation

yathA hi sumahAna agniH kakSaM dahati sAnilaH tathA dahati rAjanyò barAhmaNena samaM ripUna || 3-27-17 ||

hk transliteration

बराह्मणेभ्यॊ ऽथ मेधावी बुद्धिर पर्येषणं चरे अलब्धस्यच लाभाय लब्धस्य च विवृद्धये ।। ३-२७-१८ ।।

sanskrit

'An intelligent Kshatriya seeking to gain what he lacks and to augment what he already possesses should consult Brahmanas. Therefore, O son of Kunti, to achieve what you do not yet have, to enhance what you do have, and to spend your resources wisely.' ।। 3-27-18 ।।

english translation

barAhmaNebhyò 'tha medhAvI buddhira paryeSaNaM care alabdhasyaca lAbhAya labdhasya ca vivRddhaye || 3-27-18 ||

hk transliteration

अलब्धलाभाय च लब्धवृद्धये; यथार्ह तीर्थप्रतिपादनाय यशस्विनं वेदविदं विपश्चितं; बहुश्रुतं बराह्मणम एव वासय ।। ३-२७-१९ ।।

sanskrit

'To gain what you have not and to increase what you have, and for the proper performance of sacred rites, keep with you a Brahmana who is renowned, knowledgeable in the Vedas, wise, and well-versed in learning.' ।। 3-27-19 ।।

english translation

alabdhalAbhAya ca labdhavRddhaye; yathArha tIrthapratipAdanAya yazasvinaM vedavidaM vipazcitaM; bahuzrutaM barAhmaNama eva vAsaya || 3-27-19 ||

hk transliteration

बराह्मणेषूत्तमा वृत्तिस तव नित्यं युधिष्ठिर तेन ते सर्वलॊकेषु दीप्यते परथितं यशः ।। ३-२७-२० ।।

sanskrit

'O Yudhishthira, your reverence for the Brahmanas is the reason your fame shines brilliantly across the three worlds.' ।। 3-27-20 ।।

english translation

barAhmaNeSUttamA vRttisa tava nityaM yudhiSThira tena te sarvalòkeSu dIpyate parathitaM yazaH || 3-27-20 ||
