केशा केश्य अभवद युद्धं रक्षसां वानरैः सह नखैर दन्तैश च वीराणां खादतां वै परस्परम ॥ ३-२६८-३६ ॥

'The monkeys and the brave Rakshasas, locked in a savage struggle, tore into one another with their nails and teeth, seizing each other by the hair and rending each other apart.' ॥ 3-268-36 ॥

english translation

kezA kezya abhavada yuddhaM rakSasAM vAnaraiH saha nakhaira dantaiza ca vIrANAM khAdatAM vai parasparama ॥ 3-268-36 ॥

निष्टनन्तॊ हय अभयतस तत्र वानरराक्षसाः हता निपतिता भूमौ न मुञ्चन्ति परस्परम ॥ ३-२६८-३७ ॥

'Both sides roared and screamed in terror, and though many from both sides were slain and fell never to rise again, neither party yielded in the fierce battle.' ॥ 3-268-37 ॥

niSTanantò haya abhayatasa tatra vAnararAkSasAH hatA nipatitA bhUmau na muJcanti parasparama ॥ 3-268-37 ॥

रामस तु शरजालानि ववर्ष जलदॊ यथा तानि लङ्कां समासाद्य जघ्नुस तान रजनीचरान ॥ ३-२६८-३८ ॥

'Rama continued to shower a thick downpour of arrows, like the very clouds, and the arrows he loosed, enveloping Lanka, felled large numbers of Rakshasas.' ॥ 3-268-38 ॥

rAmasa tu zarajAlAni vavarSa jaladò yathA tAni laGkAM samAsAdya jaghnusa tAna rajanIcarAna ॥ 3-268-38 ॥

सौमित्रिर अपि नाराचैर दृढधन्वा जितक्लमः आदिश्यादिश्य दुर्गस्थान पातयाम आस राक्षसान ॥ ३-२६८-३९ ॥

'The son of Sumitra, that mighty bowman who could not be wearied in battle, identified specific Rakshasas stationed on the ramparts and struck them down with his clothyard arrows.' ॥ 3-268-39 ॥

saumitrira api nArAcaira dRDhadhanvA jitaklamaH AdizyAdizya durgasthAna pAtayAma Asa rAkSasAna ॥ 3-268-39 ॥

ततः परत्यवहारॊ ऽभूत सैन्यानां राघवाज्ञया कृते विमर्दे लङ्कायां लब्धलक्षॊ जयॊत्तरः ॥ ३-२६८-४० ॥

'After the monkeys had successfully dismantled the fortifications of Lanka, and everything within the city was laid open to the besieging forces, they were called back at Rama's command.' ॥ 3-268-40 ॥
