[मार्क] परभूतान्नॊदके तस्मिन बहुमूलफले वने सेनां निवेश्य काकुत्स्थॊ विधिवत पर्यरक्षत ॥ ३-२६८-१ ॥
'Markandeya said, "After settling his army in those groves, rich in food, water, fruits, and roots, the descendant of Kakutstha diligently watched over them with great care."' ॥ 3-268-1 ॥

'Naturally impregnable due to its towering ramparts and massive gateways, Lanka was further secured by seven deep trenches filled to the brim with water, teeming with fish, sharks, and alligators. Sharp stakes of Khadira wood reinforced its defenses, making it even more unassailable.' ॥ 3-268-3 ॥

'The ramparts, reinforced with heaps of stones, were rendered impregnable by powerful catapults. Warriors stationed along the walls wielded earthen pots filled with venomous snakes and carried various resinous powders, ready to unleash their deadly defenses.' ॥ 3-268-4 ॥

'They were also equipped with clubs, firebrands, arrows, lances, swords, and battle-axes. Additionally, they wielded Sataghnis and heavy maces, their surfaces coated with hardened wax for greater impact.' ॥ 3-268-5 ॥
