'Markandeya continued, "And while the troops, having withdrawn, were resting in their quarters, numerous small Rakshasas and Pisachas, under Ravana's command, infiltrated among them."' ॥ 3-269-1 ॥

पर्वणः पूतनॊ जम्भः खरः करॊधवशॊ हरिः पररुजश चारुजश चैव परघसश चैवम आदयः ॥ ३-२६९-२ ॥
'Markandeya continued: "Among these were Parvana, Patana, Jambha, Khara, Krodha-vasa, Hari, Praruja, Aruja, Praghasa, and others."' ॥ 3-269-2 ॥

ततॊ ऽभिपततां तेषाम अदृश्यानां दुरात्मनाम अन्तर्धानवधं तज्ज्ञश चकार स विभीषणः ॥ ३-२६९-३ ॥
'As these wicked Rakshasas approached in their invisible forms, Vibhishana, who possessed the knowledge of their concealment, broke the spell of their invisibility.' ॥ 3-269-3 ॥

ते दृश्यमाना हरिभिर बलिभिर दूरपातिभिः निहताः सर्वशॊ राजन महीं जग्मुर गतासवः ॥ ३-२६९-४ ॥
'Once visible, O king, the mighty monkeys with their immense strength and long leaps, swiftly detected them and brought them down. They were all slain and fell to the ground, lifeless, their forms prostrated in defeat.' ॥ 3-269-4 ॥

अमृष्यमाणः सबलॊ रावणॊ निर्ययाव अथ वयूह्य चौशनसं वयूहं हरीन सर्वान अहारयत ॥ ३-२६९-५ ॥
'Unable to endure this any longer, Ravana led his troops into battle. Surrounded by his formidable army of Rakshasas and Pisachas, Ravana, who was well-versed in the art of warfare like a second Usanas, strategically positioned his forces in the formation named after Usanas himself, before launching an assault on the monkey host.' ॥ 3-269-5 ॥
