के चिन नौभिर वयवस्यन्ति केचीच च विविधैः पलवैः नेति रामश च तान सर्वान सान्त्वयन परत्यभाषत ॥ ३-२६७-२६ ॥
'Some monkeys suggested crossing the sea in boats, while others proposed rafts of various kinds. Rama, conciliating them all, said, 'This is not possible.' ॥ 3-267-26 ॥
english translation
शतयॊजनविस्तारं न शक्ताः सर्ववानराः करान्तुं तॊयनिधिं वीरा नैषा वॊ नैष्ठिकी मतिः ॥ ३-२६७-२७ ॥
'The sea here is a full hundred Yojanas in width. Not all of you, O heroes, will be able to cross it.' ॥ 3-267-27 ॥
english translation
नावॊ न सन्ति सेनाया बह्व्यस तारयितुं तथा वणिजाम उपघातं च कथम अस्मद्विधश चरेत ॥ ३-२६७-२८ ॥
'This proposal you have made is, therefore, unreasonable. Moreover, we do not have the necessary number of boats to carry all our troops. How, then, can one like us create such obstacles for the merchants?' ॥ 3-267-28 ॥
english translation
विस्तीर्णं चैव नः सैन्यं हन्याच छिद्रेषु वै परः पलवॊडुप परतारश च नैवात्र मम रॊचते ॥ ३-२६७-२९ ॥
'Our army is vast. If any gap is detected, the enemy will wreak great havoc. Therefore, crossing the sea in boats or rafts does not seem a wise course.' ॥ 3-267-29 ॥
english translation
अहं तव इमं जलनिधिं समारप्स्याम्य उपायतः परतिशेष्याम्य उपवसन दर्शयिष्यति मां ततः ॥ ३-२६७-३० ॥
'However, I will pray to the Ocean for the necessary means. Foregoing food, I shall lie down on the shore.' ॥ 3-267-30 ॥
