यस्य धवजाग्रे नदतॊ मृदङ्गौ; नन्दॊपनन्दौ मधुरौ युक्तरूपौ एतं सवधर्मार्थविनिश्चयज्ञं; सदा जनाः कृत्यवन्तॊ ऽनुयान्ति ।। ३-२५४-६ ।।

sanskrit

'At the top of whose flag-banner sound two drums, Named Nanda and Upananda, sweet and harmonious, This one, who knows the certainty of dharma and purpose, Is always followed by people who have duties to fulfill.' ।। 3-254-6 ।।

english translation

yasya dhavajAgre nadatò mRdaGgau; nandòpanandau madhurau yuktarUpau etaM savadharmArthavinizcayajJaM; sadA janAH kRtyavantò 'nuyAnti || 3-254-6 ||

hk transliteration

य एष जाम्बूनदशुद्ध गौरः; परचण्ड घॊणस तनुर आयताक्षः एतं कुरुश्रेष्ठतमं वदन्ति; युधिष्ठिरं धर्मसुतं पतिं मे ।। ३-२५४-७ ।।

sanskrit

'Draupadi continued, "With a complexion like that of pure gold, a prominent nose, large eyes, and a slender form, my husband is known among the people as Yudhishthira, the son of Dharma, the foremost of the Kuru race. His name is synonymous with righteousness, and he is revered by all as the embodiment of justice and virtue, a true king who commands both respect and admiration."' ।। 3-254-7 ।।

english translation

ya eSa jAmbUnadazuddha gauraH; paracaNDa ghòNasa tanura AyatAkSaH etaM kuruzreSThatamaM vadanti; yudhiSThiraM dharmasutaM patiM me || 3-254-7 ||

hk transliteration

अप्य एष शत्रॊः शरणागतस्य; दद्यात पराणान धर्मचारी नृवीरः परैह्य एनं मूढ जवेन भूतये; तवम आत्मनः पराञ्जलिर नयस्तशास्त्रः ।। ३-२५४-७ ।।

sanskrit

'That virtuous prince, the best of men, grants life even to an enemy who surrenders. Therefore, O fool, cast aside your weapons, join your hands in supplication, and seek his protection for your own welfare.' ।। 3-254-8 ।।

english translation

apya eSa zatròH zaraNAgatasya; dadyAta parANAna dharmacArI nRvIraH paraihya enaM mUDha javena bhUtaye; tavama AtmanaH parAJjalira nayastazAstraH || 3-254-7 ||

hk transliteration

अथाप्य एनं पश्यसि यं रथस्थं; महाभुजं शालम इव परवृद्धम संदष्टौष्ठं भरुकुटी संहतभ्रुवं; वृकॊदरॊ नाम पतिर ममैषः ।। ३-२५४-9 ।।

sanskrit

'And the other man whom you see, with long arms and tall as the full-grown Sala tree, seated on his chariot, biting his lips, and furrowing his brow in anger, is none other than my husband, Vrikodara!' ।। 3-254-9 ।।

english translation

athApya enaM pazyasi yaM rathasthaM; mahAbhujaM zAlama iva paravRddhama saMdaSTauSThaM bharukuTI saMhatabhruvaM; vRkòdarò nAma patira mamaiSaH || 3-254-9 ||

आजानेया बलिनः साधु दान्ता; महाबलाः शूरम उदावहन्ति एतस्य कर्माण्य अतिमानुषाणि; भीमेति शब्दॊ ऽसय गतः पृथिव्याम ।। ३-२५४-१० ।।

sanskrit

'Steeds of the noblest breed—robust, powerful, and expertly trained—draw the chariot of that mighty warrior. His feats surpass those of mortals, and thus, he is known across the earth as Bhīma.' ।। 3-254-10 ।।

english translation

AjAneyA balinaH sAdhu dAntA; mahAbalAH zUrama udAvahanti etasya karmANya atimAnuSANi; bhImeti zabdò 'saya gataH pRthivyAma || 3-254-10 ||
