कर्तव्यं हि कृतं राजन पाण्डवैस तव मॊक्षणम नित्यम एव रियं कार्यं राज्ञॊ विषयवासिभिः पाल्यमानास तवया ते हि निवसन्ति गतज्वराः ॥ ३-२३८-३६ ॥
'O king, the Pandavas only performed their duty in freeing you. Those who dwell within a king's domain must always act in ways that please the king. Protected by thee, the Pandavas are dwelling joyfully in thy dominion.' ॥ 3-238-36 ॥
english translation
नार्हस्य एवंगते मन्युं कर्तुं पराकृतवद यथा विषण्णास तव सॊदर्यास तवयि परायं समास्थिते उत्तिष्ठ वरज भद्रं ते समाश्वसय सॊदरान ॥ ३-२३८-३७ ॥
'It does not behove thee to indulge in such sorrow like an ordinary person. Behold, thy uterine brothers are all disheartened and sorrowful at seeing thee resolved to end thy life by renouncing food. Blessed be thou! Arise, go to thy city, and comfort thy brothers.' ॥ 3-238-37 ॥

राजन्न अद्यावगच्छामि तवेह लघुसत्त्वताम किम अत्र चित्रं यद वीर मॊक्षितः पाण्डवैर असि सद्यॊ वशं समापन्नः शत्रूणां शत्रुकर्शन ॥ ३-२३८-३८ ॥
'Karna continued, 'O king, the conduct you exhibit today appears to be childish. O hero, O slayer of foes, what is so surprising in this that the Pandavas, having vanquished you, liberated you? You have quickly been brought under the control of your enemies, O enemy-destroyer.' ॥ 3-238-38 ॥
english translation
सेना जीवैश च कौरव्य तथा विषयवासिभिः अज्ञातैर यदि वा जञातैः कर्तव्यं नृपतेः परियम ॥ ३-२३८-३९ ॥
'O son of the Kuru race, those who dwell in the king's realm, especially those who follow the profession of arms, must always act in accordance with the king's will, whether they are known to him or not.' ॥ 3-238-39 ॥

परायॊ परधानाः पुरुषाः कषॊभयन्त्य अरिवाहिनीम निगृह्यन्ते च युद्धेषु मॊक्ष्यन्ते च सवसैनिकैः ॥ ३-२३८-४० ॥
'It often happens that those foremost men, who devastate the enemy's ranks, are themselves defeated by the foe, only to be rescued by their own troops.' ॥ 3-238-40 ॥
