न चाहं तवदृते राजन परशासेयं वसुंधराम पुनः पुनः परसीदेति वाक्यं चेदम उवाच ह तवम एव नः कुले राजा भविष्यसि शतं समाः ॥ ३-२३८-३१ ॥
'‘Yet I, O king, can never rule the earth without you.’ And Dussasana repeatedly pleaded, ‘Relent, O king! You alone shall be the ruler of our lineage for a hundred years.’' ॥ 3-238-31 ॥
english translation
एवम उक्त्वा स राजेन्द्र सस्वनं पररुरॊद ह पादौ संगृह्य मानार्हौ भरातुर जयेष्ठस्य भारत ॥ ३-२३८-३२ ॥
'And having spoken thus to the king, Dussasana, O Bharata, began to weep piteously, grasping the feet of his eldest brother, worthy of his worship.' ॥ 3-238-32 ॥
english translation
तथा तौ दुःखितौ दृष्ट्वा दुःशासन सुयॊधनौ अभिगम्य वयथाविष्टः कर्णस तौ परत्यभाषत ॥ ३-२३८-३३ ॥
'And seeing Dussasana and Duryodhana thus weeping, Karna, overwhelmed with grief, approached them both and spoke these words.' ॥ 3-238-33 ॥
english translation
विषीदथः किं कौरव्यौ बालिश्यात पराकृताव इव न शॊकः शॊचमानस्य विनिवर्तेत कस्य चित ॥ ३-२३८-३४ ॥
'Why, O Kuru princes, do you succumb to sorrow like ordinary men, driven by folly? Mere weeping never alleviates the grief of a sorrowing heart.' ॥ 3-238-34 ॥
english translation
यदा च शॊचतः शॊकॊ वयसनं नापकर्षति सामर्थ्यं किं तव अतः शॊके शॊचमानौ परपश्यथः धृतिं गृह्णीत मा शत्रूञ शॊचन्तौ नन्दयिष्यथः ॥ ३-२३८-३५ ॥
'When one weeps, sorrow does not diminish, nor does misfortune depart. If tears cannot dispel sorrow, what then do you achieve by yielding to grief? Summon patience to your aid, that you may not give joy to the enemy by such conduct.' ॥ 3-238-35 ॥
