रिपूणां शिरसि सथित्वा तथा विक्रम्य चॊरसि आत्मदॊषात परिभ्रष्टः कथं वक्ष्यामि तान अहम ॥ ३-२३८-१६ ॥
'Having once stood over the heads of my enemies, having trampled upon their chests, I have now fallen from my position. How can I ever speak with them?' ॥ 3-238-16 ॥

दुर्विनीताः शरियं पराप्य विद्याम ऐश्वर्यम एव च तिष्ठन्ति नचिरं भद्रे यथाहं मदगर्वितः ॥ ३-२३८-१७ ॥
'Insolent men, having obtained prosperity, knowledge, and affluence, are rarely blessed for long, as I, puffed up with vanity, once was.' ॥ 3-238-17 ॥
english translation
अहॊ बत यथेदं मे कष्टं दुश्चरितं कृतम सवयं दुर्बुद्धिना मॊहाद येन पराप्तॊ ऽसमि संशयम ॥ ३-२३८-१८ ॥
'Alas, driven by folly, I have committed a highly improper and wicked act, for which, foolish as I am, I have fallen into such distress.' ॥ 3-238-18 ॥

तस्मात परायम उपासिष्ये न हि शक्ष्यामि जीवितुम चेतयानॊ हि कॊ जीवेत कृच्छ्राच छत्रुभिर उद्धृतः ॥ ३-२३८-१९ ॥
'Therefore, I shall perish by starvation, for life has become insupportable to me. Relieved from distress by the enemy, what man of spirit can continue to live?' ॥ 3-238-19 ॥
english translation
शत्रुभिश चावहसितॊ मानी पौरुषवर्जितः पाण्डवैर विक्रमाढ्यैश च सावमानम अवेक्षितः ॥ ३-२३८-२० ॥
'Proud as I am, shorn of manliness, the enemy has mocked me, for the mighty Pandavas have gazed upon me, plunged in misery!' ॥ 3-238-20 ॥
