दुर्मन्त्रितम इदं तात राज्ञॊ दुर्द्यूत देविनः दवेष्टारम अन्ये कलीबस्य पातयन्तीति नः शरुतम ।। ३-२३१-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'Those who come here with other intentions have been overtaken by consequences they never anticipated! Truly, this is the result of the wicked counsel given to a king who is enamored with deceitful games. We have heard that the enemy of a powerless person is often brought down by others.' ।। 3-231-16 ।।

english translation

durmantritama idaM tAta rAjJò durdyUta devinaH daveSTArama anye kalIbasya pAtayantIti naH zarutama || 3-231-16 ||

'The Gandharvas have, in a remarkable manner, demonstrated before our eyes the truth of this saying! It seems that, fortunately, there is still someone in the world who wishes us well, and who has, in fact, taken upon himself our burden of joy, even though we remain idle.' ।। 3-231-17 ।।

tada idaM kRtaM naH paratyakSaM gandharvai ratimAnuSama diSTyA lòke pumAna asti kaza cida asmatpriye sathitaH yenAsmAkaM hRtò bhAra AsInAnAM sukhAvahaH || 3-231-17 ||

'The wretch has come here to gaze upon us—himself flourishing, while we are sunk in misfortune, wasted by ascetic practices, and exposed to the harsh elements of wind, cold, and heat.' ।। 3-231-18 ।।

zItavAtAtapa sahAMsa tapasA caiva karzitAna samasthò viSamasthAna hi daraSTuma icchati durmatiH || 3-231-18 ||

'Those who now imitate the actions of that sinful and miserable Kaurava are witnesses to his disgrace! He who had counseled Duryodhana to act in this way has surely committed a grave sin.' ।। 3-231-19 ।।

english translation

adharmacAriNasa tasya kauravyasya durAtmanaH ye zIlama anuvartante te pazyanti parAbhavama || 3-231-19 ||

'Indeed, unrighteousness (adharma) was done by him who taught this behavior, but the sons of Kunti are compassionate - I tell this to you who are his officers/ministers.' ।। 3-231-20 ।।
