यां शरियं सुहृदश चैव दुर्हृदश च विशां पते पश्यन्ति पुरुषे दीप्तां सा समर्था भवत्य उत ।। ३-२२६-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'O king, that radiant prosperity which is seen by both one's friends and foes is considered to be well-bestowed!' ।। 3-226-16 ।।

english translation

yAM zariyaM suhRdaza caiva durhRdaza ca vizAM pate pazyanti puruSe dIptAM sA samarthA bhavatya uta || 3-226-16 ||

hk transliteration

समस्थॊ विषमस्थान हि दुर्हृदॊ यॊ ऽभिवीक्षते जगतीस्थान इवाद्रिस्थः किं ततः परमं सुखम ।। ३-२२६-१७ ।।

sanskrit

'What happiness can be more complete than that which he enjoys, who, while himself in prosperity, looks upon his foes in adversity, like a person on the hilltop looking down upon another crawling on the earth?' ।। 3-226-17 ।।

english translation

samasthò viSamasthAna hi durhRdò yò 'bhivIkSate jagatIsthAna ivAdristhaH kiM tataH paramaM sukhama || 3-226-17 ||

hk transliteration

न पुत्र धनलाभेन न राज्येनापि विन्दति परीतिं नृपतिशार्दूल याम अमित्राघ दर्शनात ।। ३-२२६-१८ ।।

sanskrit

'O tiger among kings, the happiness one derives from beholding his foes in grief is greater than what one may derive from the acquisition of offerings, wealth, or a kingdom!' ।। 3-226-18 ।।

english translation

na putra dhanalAbhena na rAjyenApi vindati parItiM nRpatizArdUla yAma amitrAgha darzanAta || 3-226-18 ||

किं नु तस्य सुखं न सयाद आश्रमे यॊ धनंजयम अभिवीक्षेत सिद्धार्थॊ वकलाजिन वाससम ।। ३-२२६-१९ ।।

sanskrit

'What happiness will not be his, who, himself in affluence, casts his eyes upon Dhananjaya, attired in barks and deer-skins?' ।। 3-226-19 ।।

english translation

kiM nu tasya sukhaM na sayAda Azrame yò dhanaMjayama abhivIkSeta siddhArthò vakalAjina vAsasama || 3-226-19 ||

hk transliteration

सुवाससॊ हि ते भार्या वकलाजिन वाससम पश्यन्त्व असुखितां कृष्णां सा च निर्विद्यतां पुनः विनिन्दतां तथात्मानं जीवितं च धनच्युता ।। ३-२२६-२० ।।

sanskrit

'Let thy wife, dressed in costly robes, look upon the woeful Krishna clad in barks and deer-skins, and thereby increase his grief! Let the daughter of Drupada reproach herself and her life, being divested of wealth.' ।। 3-226-20 ।।

suvAsasò hi te bhAryA vakalAjina vAsasama pazyantva asukhitAM kRSNAM sA ca nirvidyatAM punaH vinindatAM tathAtmAnaM jIvitaM ca dhanacyutA || 3-226-20 ||
