तम आपतन्तं महिषं दृष्ट्वा सेन्द्रा दिवौकसः वयद्रवन्त रणे भीता विशीर्णायुध केतनाः ॥ ३-२२१-५६ ॥
'Seeing his advance, Indra and the other celestial beings, overwhelmed with fear, fled, abandoning their weapons and banners.' ॥ 3-221-56 ॥
english translation
ततः स महिषः करुद्धस तूर्णं रुद्र रथं ययौ अभिद्रुत्य च जग्राह रुद्रस्य रथकूबरम ॥ ३-२२१-५७ ॥
'Enraged, Mahisha swiftly advanced towards Rudra's chariot, and upon reaching it, he seized its pole with his hands.' ॥ 3-221-57 ॥
english translation
यदा रुद्र रथं करुद्धॊ महिषः सहसा गतः रेसतू रॊदसी गाढं मुमुहुश च महर्षयः ॥ ३-२२१-५८ ॥
'When Mahisha, in a fit of rage, seized Rudra’s chariot, the Earth itself groaned, and the great Rishis were struck with awe.' ॥ 3-221-58 ॥
english translation
वयनदंश च महाकाया दैत्या जलधरॊपमाः आसीच च निश्चितं तेषां जितम अस्माभिर इत्य उत ॥ ३-२२१-५९ ॥
'The mighty Daityas, resembling dark clouds, exulted in joy, believing that victory was within their grasp.' ॥ 3-221-59 ॥
english translation
तथा भूते तु भगवान नावधीन महिषं रणे सस्मार च तदा सकन्दं मृत्युं तस्य दुरात्मनः ॥ ३-२२१-६० ॥
'Despite being in that dire situation, the beloved god Rudra chose not to strike down Mahisha himself; instead, he remembered that Skanda would deliver the final blow to that wicked Asura' ॥ 3-221-60 ॥
