ततस तूर्यप्रणादश च भेरीणां च महास्वनाः बभूवुर दानवेन्द्राणां सिंहनादाश च दारुणाः ॥ ३-२२१-५१ ॥

'Then the Asuras beat their drums, their sharp bugles blared, and the Danava leaders uttered their terrifying war-cry.' ॥ 3-221-51 ॥

english translation

अथ दैत्य बलाद घॊरान निष्पपात महाबलः दानवॊ महिषॊ नाम परगृह्य विपुलं गिरिम ॥ ३-२२१-५२ ॥

'Then a mighty Danava, seizing a massive rock, emerged from the fearsome Daitya army.' ॥ 3-221-52 ॥

english translation

ते तं घनैर इवादित्यं दृष्ट्वा संपरिवारितम समुद्यतगिरिं राजन वयद्रवन्त दिवौकसः ॥ ३-२२१-५३ ॥

'He appeared like the sun emerging from behind a mass of dark clouds. And, O king, seeing that he was about to hurl the rock at them, the celestials fled in panic.' ॥ 3-221-53 ॥

english translation

अथाभिद्रुत्य महिषॊ देवांश चिक्षेप तं गिरिम पतता तेन गिरिणा देवसैन्यस्य पार्थिव भीमरूपेण निहतम अयुतं परापतद भुवि ॥ ३-२२१-५४ ॥

'But Mahisha pursued them, hurling the hillock at the celestial forces. And, O lord of the world, when that massive rock fell, it crushed ten thousand warriors of the celestial army, and they breathed their last on the battlefield.' ॥ 3-221-54 ॥

english translation

अथ तैर दानवैः सार्धं महिषस तरासयन सुरान अभ्यद्रवद रणे तूर्णं सिंहः कषुद्रमृगान इव ॥ ३-२२१-५५ ॥

'Mahisha's assault filled the gods with terror. With his Danava followers, he pounced upon them like a lion attacking a herd of deer.' ॥ 3-221-55 ॥
