तस्याभयं ददौ सकन्दः सह सैन्यस्य सत्तम ततः परहृष्टास तरिदशा वादित्राण्य अभ्यवादयन ।। ३-२१७-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Markandeya continued, "Now listen about the terrifying and strange-looking followers of Skanda. When Skanda was struck by the thunderbolt, numerous male children of fearsome nature were born. These dreadful beings are known to abduct children, whether they are newborn or still in the womb."' ।। 3-217-1 ।।

english translation

tasyAbhayaM dadau sakandaH saha sainyasya sattama tataH parahRSTAsa taridazA vAditrANya abhyavAdayana || 3-217-1 ||

hk transliteration

वज्रप्रहारात कन्याश च जज्ञिरे ऽसय महाबलाः कुमाराश च विशाखं तं पितृत्वे समकल्पयन ।। ३-२१७-२ ।।

sanskrit

'Along with them, a number of powerful female beings also came into existence. Those children accepted Vishakha as their father.' ।। 3-217-2 ।।

english translation

vajraprahArAta kanyAza ca jajJire 'saya mahAbalAH kumArAza ca vizAkhaM taM pitRtve samakalpayana || 3-217-2 ||

hk transliteration

स भूत्वा भगवान संख्ये रक्षंश छाग मुखस तदा वृतः कन्या गणैः सर्वैर आत्मनीनैश च पुत्रकैः ।। ३-२१७-३ ।।

sanskrit

'The admirable and skillful Bhadrasakha, whose face resembled that of a goat, stood amidst the battle, surrounded by all his sons and daughters.' ।। 3-217-3 ।।

english translation

sa bhUtvA bhagavAna saMkhye rakSaMza chAga mukhasa tadA vRtaH kanyA gaNaiH sarvaira AtmanInaiza ca putrakaiH || 3-217-3 ||

hk transliteration

मातॄणां परेक्षतीनां च भद्रशाखश च कौशलः ततः कुमार पितरं सकन्दम आहुर जना भुवि ।। ३-२१७-४ ।।

sanskrit

'He guarded them diligently under the watchful care of the Great Mothers. And thus, the inhabitants of the earth came to call Skanda the father of the Kumaras (young children).' ।। 3-217-4 ।।

english translation

mAtRRNAM parekSatInAM ca bhadrazAkhaza ca kauzalaH tataH kumAra pitaraM sakandama Ahura janA bhuvi || 3-217-4 ||

hk transliteration

रुद्रम अग्निम उमां सवाहां परदेशेषु महाबलाम यजन्ति पुत्र कामाश च पुत्रिणश च सदा जनाः ।। ३-२१७-५ ।।

sanskrit

'Those who wish for sons worship the mighty Rudra in the form of the Fire-god and Uma in the form of Svaha at their respective sacred places.' ।। 3-217-5 ।।

english translation

rudrama agnima umAM savAhAM paradezeSu mahAbalAma yajanti putra kAmAza ca putriNaza ca sadA janAH || 3-217-5 ||
