मातॄणां परेक्षतीनां च भद्रशाखश च कौशलः ततः कुमार पितरं सकन्दम आहुर जना भुवि ॥ ३-२१७-४ ॥
'He guarded them diligently under the watchful care of the Great Mothers. And thus, the inhabitants of the earth came to call Skanda the father of the Kumaras (young children).' ॥ 3-217-4 ॥
