स एष राजा जनकः सर्वं धर्मेण पश्यति अनुगृह्णन परजाः सर्वाः सवधर्मनिरताः सदा ॥ ३-१९८-३६ ॥
'But our King Janaka observes all his subjects with virtuous eyes, and he is always kind to those who, on their part, steadfastly adhere to their respective duties.' ॥ 3-198-36 ॥
english translation
ये चैव मां परशंसन्ति ये च निन्दन्ति मानवाः सर्वान सुपरिणीतेन कर्मणा तॊषयाम्य अहम ॥ ३-१९८-३७ ॥
'As for myself, I always seek to please both those who speak well of me and those who speak ill, through my good deeds.' ॥ 3-198-37 ॥
english translation
ये जीवन्ति सवधर्मेण संभुञ्जन्ते च पार्थिवाः न किं चिद उपजीवन्ति दक्षा उत्थान शीलिनः ॥ ३-१९८-३८ ॥
'Kings who live by their own proper duties, who are consistently engaged in righteous and honest acts, who have their souls under complete control, and who possess readiness and alacrity, need not rely on anything else to sustain their power.' ॥ 3-198-38 ॥
english translation
शक्त्यान्न दानं सततं तितिक्षा धर्मनित्यता यथार्हं परतिपूजा च सर्वभूतेषु वै दया तयागान नान्यत्र मर्त्यानां गुणास तिष्ठन्ति पूरुषे ॥ ३-१९८-३९ ॥
'The gift of food to the best of one’s ability, endurance of heat and cold, steadfastness in virtue, and compassion for all living beings—these qualities can never manifest in a person without an innate desire to detach from worldly attachments.' ॥ 3-198-39 ॥
english translation
मृषावादं परिहरेत कुर्यात परियम अयाचितः न च कामान न संरम्भान न दवेषाद धर्मम उत्सृजेत ॥ ३-१९८-४० ॥
'One should avoid falsehood in speech and do good without the need for praise. Virtue should never be abandoned due to lust, anger, or malice.' ॥ 3-198-40 ॥
