करॊधः शत्रुः शरीरस्थॊ मनुष्याणां दविजॊत्तम यः करॊधमॊहौ तयजति तं देवा बराह्मणं विदुः ।। ३-१९७-३१ ।।

sanskrit

'But, O foremost of the regenerate, the anger a person harbors is their greatest foe. The gods recognize as a true Brahmana one who has abandoned both anger and passion.' ।। 3-197-31 ।।

english translation

karòdhaH zatruH zarIrasthò manuSyANAM davijòttama yaH karòdhamòhau tayajati taM devA barAhmaNaM viduH || 3-197-31 ||

यॊ वदेद इह सत्यानि गुरुं संतॊषयेत च हिंसितश च न हिंसेत तं देवा बराह्मणं विदुः ।। ३-१९७-३२ ।।

'The gods recognize him as a true Brahmana who consistently speaks the truth, honors and gratifies his preceptor, and, even when wronged, refrains from seeking revenge.' ।। 3-197-32 ।।

english translation

yò vadeda iha satyAni guruM saMtòSayeta ca hiMsitaza ca na hiMseta taM devA barAhmaNaM viduH || 3-197-32 ||

'The gods know him to be a Brahmana who has mastery over his senses, is virtuous and pure, devoted to the study of the Vedas, and has control over both anger and desire.' ।। 3-197-33 ।।

jitendriyò dharmaparaH savAdhyAyanirataH zuciH kAmakròdhau vaze yasya taM devA barAhmaNaM viduH || 3-197-33 ||

'The gods recognize him as a Brahmana who, knowing the principles of morality and endowed with mental strength, follows all religions and treats all beings as equal to himself.' ।। 3-197-34 ।।

yasya cAtmasamò lòkò dharmajJasya manasvinaH sarvadharmeSu ca ratasa taM devA barAhmaNaM viduH || 3-197-34 ||

यॊ ऽधयापयेद अधीयीत यजेद वा याजयीत वा दद्याद वापि यथाशक्ति तं देवा बराह्मणं विदुः ।। ३-१९७-३५ ।।

'The gods recognize him as a Brahmana who not only engages in self-study and teaches others, but also performs sacrifices for himself and officiates at others' sacrifices, generously giving to the best of his ability.' ।। 3-197-35 ।।

yò 'dhayApayeda adhIyIta yajeda vA yAjayIta vA dadyAda vApi yathAzakti taM devA barAhmaNaM viduH || 3-197-35 ||
