[जनम] तस्मिन कृतास्त्रे रथिनां परधाने; परत्यागते भवनाद वृत्र हन्तुः अतः परं किम अकुर्वन्त पार्थाः; समेत्य शूरेण धनंजयेन ।। ३-१७३-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Janamejaya said, "When that foremost of heroes, skilled in arms, had returned from the abode of the slayer of Vritra, what did the sons of Pritha do, united with the valorous Dhananjaya?"' ।। 3-173-1 ।।

english translation

[janama] tasmina kRtAstre rathinAM paradhAne; paratyAgate bhavanAda vRtra hantuH ataH paraM kima akurvanta pArthAH; sametya zUreNa dhanaMjayena || 3-173-1 ||

'Vaisampayana said, "In the company of that hero, equal to Indra, Arjuna—the foremost of men—revelled in the pleasure gardens of the lord of treasures, situated in the enchanting and splendid mountain forests."' ।। 3-173-2 ।।

[vai] vaneSu teSva eva tu te narendrAH; sahArjunenendra samena vIrAH tasmiMza ca zailapravare suramye; dhanezvarAkrIDa gatA vijahruH || 3-173-2 ||

'Seeing those incomparable mansions/palaces, And the pleasure gardens with various trees nearby, The noble king wandered in many ways, He, the crowned one, was always engaged in sacrifices.' ।। 3-173-3 ।।

vezmAni tAnya apratimAni pazyana; karIDAza ca nAnAdrumasaMnikarSAH cacAra dhavI bahudhA narendraH; sò 'satreSu yattaH satataM kirITI || 3-173-3 ||

अवाप्य वासं नरदेव पुत्राः; परसादजं वैश्वरणस्य राज्ञः न पराणिनां ते सपृहयन्ति राजञ; शिवश च कालः स बभूव तेषाम ।। ३-१७३-४ ।।

'Having obtained residence, the sons of the king (princes), In the palace gifted by King Vaishravana (Kubera), They did not desire/envy any other beings, O King, And that time became auspicious for them.' ।। 3-173-4 ।।

avApya vAsaM naradeva putrAH; parasAdajaM vaizvaraNasya rAjJaH na parANinAM te sapRhayanti rAjaJa; zivaza ca kAlaH sa babhUva teSAma || 3-173-4 ||

समेत्य पार्थेन यथैक रात्रम; ऊषुः समास तत्र तदा चतस्रः पूर्वाश च सॊ ता दश पाण्डवानां; शिवा बभूवुर वसतां वनेषु ।। ३-१७३-५ ।।

'O King, that period of their lives passed peacefully. With Partha in their company, the four years they spent there felt like a single night. As the Pandavas dwelled in the forest, these four years, along with the previous six, seamlessly combined into ten tranquil and harmonious years.' ।। 3-173-5 ।।

sametya pArthena yathaika rAtrama; USuH samAsa tatra tadA catasraH pUrvAza ca sò tA daza pANDavAnAM; zivA babhUvura vasatAM vaneSu || 3-173-5 ||
