गृहीत्वा सर्वशस्त्राणि दरौपदीं परिगृह्य च परातिष्ठत स दुष्टात्मा तरीन गृहीत्वा च पाण्डवान ।। ३-१५४-६ ।।

sanskrit

'Having taken up all weapons and having embraced Draupadi, that evil-souled one stood prepared, having seized the Pandavas.' ।। 3-154-6 ।।

english translation

gRhItvA sarvazastrANi daraupadIM parigRhya ca parAtiSThata sa duSTAtmA tarIna gRhItvA ca pANDavAna || 3-154-6 ||

hk transliteration

सहदेवस तु यत्नेन ततॊ ऽपक्रम्य पाण्डवः आक्रन्दद भीमसेनं वै यन यातॊ महाबलः ।। ३-१५४-७ ।।

sanskrit

'Then, with great effort, Sahadeva freed himself, forcibly seized the sword named Kausika from the enemy's grasp, and began calling for Bhimasena, heading in the direction where the mighty one had gone.' ।। 3-154-7 ।।

english translation

sahadevasa tu yatnena tatò 'pakramya pANDavaH Akrandada bhImasenaM vai yana yAtò mahAbalaH || 3-154-7 ||

तम अब्रवीद धर्मराजॊ हरियमाणॊ युधिष्ठिरः धर्मस ते हीयते मूढ न चैनं समवेक्षसे ।। ३-१५४-८ ।।

sanskrit

'While being carried off, Yudhishthira the just addressed the Rakshasa, saying, 'O fool, your merit diminishes even with this very act of yours.'' ।। 3-154-8 ।।

english translation

tama abravIda dharmarAjò hariyamANò yudhiSThiraH dharmasa te hIyate mUDha na cainaM samavekSase || 3-154-8 ||

hk transliteration

ये ऽनये के चिन मनुष्येषु तिर्यग्यॊनिगता अपि गन्धर्वयक्षरक्षांसि वयांसि पशवस तथा मनुष्यान उपजीवन्ति ततस तवम उपजीवसि ।। ३-१५४-९ ।।

sanskrit

'Do you not heed the established order of nature? Whether one belongs to the human race or to the lower orders of beings, all must regard virtue—especially the Rakshasas. In the beginning, they understood virtue better than others. Having considered all this, you should adhere to virtue as well.' ।। 3-154-9 ।।

english translation

ye 'naye ke cina manuSyeSu tiryagyònigatA api gandharvayakSarakSAMsi vayAMsi pazavasa tathA manuSyAna upajIvanti tatasa tavama upajIvasi || 3-154-9 ||

hk transliteration

समृद्ध्या हय अस्य लॊकस्य लॊकॊ युष्माकम ऋध्यते इमं च लॊकं शॊचन्तम अनुशॊचन्ति देवताः पूज्यमानाश च वर्धन्ते हव्यकव्यैर यथाविधि ।। ३-१५४-१० ।।

sanskrit

'O Rakshasa, the gods, the ancestors, the Siddhas, the sages, the Gandharvas, the animals, and even the smallest creatures such as worms and ants, all depend on humans for their sustenance; and so, you too live by their agency. If prosperity attends the human race, thy race also thrives; but if calamities befall them, even the celestials suffer. The gods, nourished by offerings, flourish.' ।। 3-154-10 ।।

samRddhyA haya asya lòkasya lòkò yuSmAkama Rdhyate imaM ca lòkaM zòcantama anuzòcanti devatAH pUjyamAnAza ca vardhante havyakavyaira yathAvidhi || 3-154-10 ||
