दवापरे ऽपि युगे धर्मॊ दविभागॊनः परवर्तते विष्णुर वै पीततां याति चतुर्धा वेद एव च ॥ ३-१४८-२६ ॥
'In the Dvapara Yuga, religion decreases by half. Narayana assumes a yellow hue, and the Vedas are divided into four parts.' ॥ 3-148-26 ॥
english translation
davApare 'pi yuge dharmò davibhAgònaH paravartate viSNura vai pItatAM yAti caturdhA veda eva ca ॥ 3-148-26 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततॊ ऽनये च चतुर्वेदास तरिवेदाश च तथापरे दविवेदाश चैकवेदाश चाप्य अनृचश च तथापरे ॥ ३-१४८-२७ ॥
'Some individuals preserve the knowledge of all four Vedas, while others are proficient in three, two, or even a single Veda. Yet, there are also those unfamiliar with even the Rigvedic hymns.' ॥ 3-148-27 ॥
english translation
tatò 'naye ca caturvedAsa tarivedAza ca tathApare davivedAza caikavedAza cApya anRcaza ca tathApare ॥ 3-148-27 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवं शास्त्रेषु भिन्नेषु बहुधा नीयते करिया तपॊ दानप्रवृत्ता च राजसी भवति परजा ॥ ३-१४८-२८ ॥
'As the Shastras became fragmented, actions multiplied. Driven largely by passion, people devoted themselves to ascetic practices and charitable deeds.' ॥ 3-148-28 ॥
english translation
evaM zAstreSu bhinneSu bahudhA nIyate kariyA tapò dAnapravRttA ca rAjasI bhavati parajA ॥ 3-148-28 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएकवेदस्य चाज्ञानाद वेदास ते बहवः कृताः सत्यस्य चेह विभ्रंशात सत्ये कश चिद अवस्थितः ॥ ३-१४८-२९ ॥
'However, due to the inability to study the entirety of the Vedas, their knowledge was divided into several parts.' ॥ 3-148-29 ॥
english translation
ekavedasya cAjJAnAda vedAsa te bahavaH kRtAH satyasya ceha vibhraMzAta satye kaza cida avasthitaH ॥ 3-148-29 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसत्यात परच्यवमानानां वयाधयॊ बहवॊ ऽभवन कामाश चॊपद्रवाश चैव तदा दैवतकारिताः ॥ ३-१४८-३० ॥
'As intellect waned, only a few remained steadfast in truth. When people strayed from truth, they became vulnerable to various ailments. This was followed by the rise of lust and natural calamities.' ॥ 3-148-30 ॥

satyAta paracyavamAnAnAM vayAdhayò bahavò 'bhavana kAmAza còpadravAza caiva tadA daivatakAritAH ॥ 3-148-30 ॥
