यैर अर्द्यमानाः सुभृशं तपस तप्यन्ति मानवाः कामकामाः सवर्गकामा यज्ञांस तन्वन्ति चापरे ॥ ३-१४८-३१ ॥
'Troubled by these afflictions, people turned to penance in search of relief. Some perform sacrifices, driven by desires for earthly pleasures or the attainment of heaven.' ॥ 3-148-31 ॥

एवं दवापरम आसाद्य परजाः कषीयन्त्य अधर्मतः पादेनैकेन कौन्तेय धर्मः कलियुगे सथितः ॥ ३-१४८-३२ ॥
'With the onset of the Dwapara Yuga, human virtue declines due to increasing impiety. O son of Kunti, in the Kali Yuga, only a quarter of righteousness endures.' ॥ 3-148-32 ॥

तामसं युगम आसाद्य कृष्णॊ भवति केशवः वेदाचाराः परशाम्यन्ति धर्मयज्ञक्रियास तथा ॥ ३-१४८-३३ ॥
'At the dawn of this age of iron, Narayana assumes a dark hue. The Vedas, sacred laws, virtue, sacrifices, and religious observances gradually fall into disuse.' ॥ 3-148-33 ॥

ईतयॊ वयाधयस तन्द्री दॊषाः करॊधादयस तथा उपद्रवाश च वर्तन्ते आधयॊ वयाधयस तथा ॥ ३-१४८-३४ ॥
'In this age, reign disease, lethargy, anger, and other afflictions, along with natural calamities, suffering, and the fear of scarcity.' ॥ 3-148-34 ॥

युगेष्व आवर्तमानेषु धर्मॊ वयावर्तते पुनः धर्मे वयावर्तमाने तु लॊकॊ वयावर्तते पुनः ॥ ३-१४८-३५ ॥
'As the yugas progress, virtue diminishes, and with the decline of virtue, all creatures degenerate.' ॥ 3-148-35 ॥
