तम अब्रवीद गुरुः सॊ ऽथ पच्यमानॊ ऽगनिना भृशम तवं मया याजितॊ राजंस तस्येदं कर्मणः फलम ॥ ३-१२८-११ ॥

'Then the family priest, grievously scorched by the flames, spoke to him, saying, 'This is the result of my having officiated in your sacrifice, O king.'' ॥ 3-128-11 ॥

english translation

tama abravIda guruH sò 'tha pacyamAnò 'ganinA bhRzama tavaM mayA yAjitò rAjaMsa tasyedaM karmaNaH phalama ॥ 3-128-11 ॥

एतच छरुत्वा स राजर्षिर धर्मराजानम अब्रवीत अहम अत्र परवेक्ष्यामि मुच्यतां मम याजकः मत्कृते हि महाभागः पच्यते नरकाग्निना ॥ ३-१२८-१२ ॥

'Hearing this, the righteous king spoke to Yama, the lord of justice: 'I shall enter this realm. Release my priest, for it is by my actions that this pious man is being tormented by the fires of hell.'' ॥ 3-128-12 ॥

english translation

etaca charutvA sa rAjarSira dharmarAjAnama abravIta ahama atra paravekSyAmi mucyatAM mama yAjakaH matkRte hi mahAbhAgaH pacyate narakAgninA ॥ 3-128-12 ॥

नान्यः कर्तुः फलं राजन्न उपभुङ्क्ते कदा चन इमानि तव दृश्यन्ते फलानि ददतां वर ॥ ३-१२८-१३ ॥

'Dharmaraja then replied, "One cannot enjoy or suffer the consequences of another's actions. O foremost of speakers, these are the fruits of your own deeds; behold them here."' ॥ 3-128-13 ॥

nAnyaH kartuH phalaM rAjanna upabhuGkte kadA cana imAni tava dRzyante phalAni dadatAM vara ॥ 3-128-13 ॥

[सॊमक] पुण्यान न कामये लॊकान ऋते ऽहं बरह्मवादिनम इच्छाम्य अहम अनेनैव सह वस्तुं सुरालये ॥ ३-१२८-१४ ॥

'Somaka said, "O Dharmaraja, I do not wish to reach the blessed realms without this Brahmana. My only desire is to dwell with him, whether in the abode of the gods or in hell."' ॥ 3-128-14 ॥

[sòmaka] puNyAna na kAmaye lòkAna Rte 'haM barahmavAdinama icchAmya ahama anenaiva saha vastuM surAlaye ॥ 3-128-14 ॥

नरके वा धर्मराज कर्मणास्य समॊ हय अहम पुण्यापुण्य फलं देवसमम अस्त्व आवयॊर इदम ॥ ३-१२८-१५ ॥

'For, my actions are identical to his, and the fruits of our virtues or vices should be the same for both of us.' ॥ 3-128-15 ॥
