[स] बरह्मन यद यद यथा कार्यं तत तत कुरु तथा तथा पुत्र कामतया सर्वं करिष्यामि वचस तव ।। ३-१२८-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Somaka said, "O Brahmana, whatever needs to be done, let it be carried out exactly as required. Being eager to have many sons, I shall comply fully with all that you prescribe."' ।। 3-128-1 ।।

english translation

[sa] barahmana yada yada yathA kAryaM tata tata kuru tathA tathA putra kAmatayA sarvaM kariSyAmi vacasa tava || 3-128-1 ||

[ल] ततः स याजयाम आस सॊमकं तेन जन्तुना मातरस तु बलात पुत्रम अपाकर्षुः कृपान्विताः ।। ३-१२८-२ ।।

sanskrit

'Lomasa said, "Then the priest conducted the sacrifice in which Jantu was to be offered as the victim. However, moved by compassion, the mothers forcibly seized the son and carried him away."' ।। 3-128-2 ।।

'They cried out, 'We are undone!' Overwhelmed by unbearable grief, the mothers grasped Jantu by his right hand, weeping in anguish. Meanwhile, the officiating priest seized the boy’s left hand and pulled him away.'' ।। 3-128-3 ।।

hAhatAH sameti vAzantyasa tIvrazòkasamanvitAH taM mAtaraH paratyakarSana gRhItvA dakSiNe kare savye pANau gRhItvA tu yAjakò 'pi sama karSati || 3-128-3 ||

कुररीणाम इवार्तानाम अपाकृष्य तु तं सुतम विशस्य चैनं विधिना वपाम अस्य जुहाव सः ।। ३-१२८-४ ।।

'Wailing like anguished ospreys, the mothers cried out in agony. Yet the priest, adhering to the sacrificial rites, dragged the boy, performed the ritual, and offered his fat in the sacred fire in the prescribed manner.' ।। 3-128-4 ।।

english translation

kurarINAma ivArtAnAma apAkRSya tu taM sutama vizasya cainaM vidhinA vapAma asya juhAva saH || 3-128-4 ||

वपायां हूयमानायां गन्धम आघ्राय मातरः आर्ता निपेतुः सहसा पृथिव्यां कुरुनन्दन सर्वाश च गर्भान अलभंस ततस ताः पार्थिवाङ्गनाः ।। ३-१२८-५ ।।

sanskrit

'O joy of the Kuru lineage! As the fat was being offered into the fire, the anguished mothers caught its scent and suddenly collapsed to the ground in grief. Then, O ruler of men and scion of Bharata’s race, all those noble women conceived.' ।। 3-128-5 ।।

english translation

vapAyAM hUyamAnAyAM gandhama AghrAya mAtaraH ArtA nipetuH sahasA pRthivyAM kurunandana sarvAza ca garbhAna alabhaMsa tatasa tAH pArthivAGganAH || 3-128-5 ||
