[लॊमष] स तु राजा महेष्वासश चक्रवर्ती महारथः बभूव सर्वलॊकस्य मनॊ नयननन्दनः ।। ३-१०७-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Lomasa said, 'That king, renowned for his powerful bow and imperial standing, commanding a formidable chariot and great fighting prowess, became the delight of the world's eyes and hearts.'' ।। 3-107-1 ।।

english translation

[lòmaSa] sa tu rAjA maheSvAsaza cakravartI mahArathaH babhUva sarvalòkasya manò nayananandanaH || 3-107-1 ||

स शुश्राव महाबाहुः कपिलेन महात्मना पितॄणां निधनं घॊरम अप्राप्तिं तरिदिवस्य च ।। ३-१०७-२ ।।

sanskrit

'He of powerful arms came to know from the great-souled Kapila how his forefathers had met a tragic end and were unable to reach the heavenly realms.' ।। 3-107-2 ।।

english translation

sa zuzrAva mahAbAhuH kapilena mahAtmanA pitRRNAM nidhanaM ghòrama aprAptiM taridivasya ca || 3-107-2 ||

स राज्यं सचिवे नयस्य हृदयेन विदूयता जगाम हिमवत्पार्श्वं तपस तप्तुं नरेश्वरः ।। ३-१०७-३ ।।

sanskrit

'With a sorrowful heart, he entrusted his royal duties to his ministers. Then, O lord of men, he departed to the slopes of the snowy Himalayas to undertake his austerities.' ।। 3-107-3 ।।

sa rAjyaM sacive nayasya hRdayena vidUyatA jagAma himavatpArzvaM tapasa taptuM narezvaraH || 3-107-3 ||

आरिराधयिषुर गङ्गां तपसा दग्धकिल्बिषः सॊ ऽपश्यत नरश्रेष्ठ हिमवन्तं नगॊत्तमम शृङ्गैर बहुविधाकारैर धातुमद्भिर अलं कृतम ।। ३-१०७-४ ।।

sanskrit

'O most praiseworthy of men, seeking to cleanse his sins through austerity and win the favor of the goddess Ganga, he journeyed to the foremost of mountains, the Himalaya. He saw it adorned with peaks of diverse shapes, rich with mineral deposits.' ।। 3-107-4 ।।

ArirAdhayiSura gaGgAM tapasA dagdhakilbiSaH sò 'pazyata narazreSTha himavantaM nagòttamama zRGgaira bahuvidhAkAraira dhAtumadbhira alaM kRtama || 3-107-4 ||

पवनालम्बिभिर मेघैः परिष्वक्तं समन्त तः ।। ३-१०७-५ ।।

'Surrounded on all sides by clouds resting upon the wind, the mountain appeared to embrace the heavens.' ।। 3-107-5 ।।
