[लॊमष] इक्ष्वाकूणां कुले जातः सगरॊ नाम पार्थिवः रूपसत्त्वबलॊपेतः स चापुत्रः परतापवान ।। ३-१०४-६ ।।

sanskrit

'Lomasa said: ‘In the lineage of the Ikshvaku dynasty, there was a ruler of the earth named Sagara, endowed with beauty and strength. Yet, this king, known for his formidable reputation, was without sons, O descendant of Bharata!’' ।। 3-104-6 ।।

english translation

[lòmaSa] ikSvAkUNAM kule jAtaH sagarò nAma pArthivaH rUpasattvabalòpetaH sa cAputraH paratApavAna || 3-104-6 ||

hk transliteration

स हैहयान समुत्साद्य तालजङ्घांश च भारत वशे च कृत्वा राज्ञॊ ऽनयान सवराज्यम अन्वशासत ।। ३-१०४-७ ।।

sanskrit

'He wrought destruction among the tribes of the Haihayas and the Talajanghas, subjugating the entire warrior class, and thus ruled over his own kingdom.' ।। 3-104-7 ।।

english translation

sa haihayAna samutsAdya tAlajaGghAMza ca bhArata vaze ca kRtvA rAjJò 'nayAna savarAjyama anvazAsata || 3-104-7 ||

hk transliteration

तस्य भार्ये तव अभवतां रूपयौवन दर्पिते वैदर्भी भरतश्रेष्ठ शैब्या च भरतर्षभ ।। ३-१०४-८ ।।

sanskrit

'And, O most esteemed among the descendants of Bharata! O chief of the Bharata lineage! He had two wives, both proud of their beauty and youth—one from the royal family of Vidarbha, and the other from the noble line of Sivi.' ।। 3-104-8 ।।

english translation

tasya bhArye tava abhavatAM rUpayauvana darpite vaidarbhI bharatazreSTha zaibyA ca bharatarSabha || 3-104-8 ||

सपुत्रकामॊ नृपतिस तताप सुमहत तपः पत्नीभ्यां सह राजेन्द्र कैलासं गिरिम आश्रितः ।। ३-१०४-९ ।।

sanskrit

'And, O chief among kings, that same ruler of men ascended Mount Kailasa, accompanied by both his wives.' ।। 3-104-9 ।।

english translation

saputrakAmò nRpatisa tatApa sumahata tapaH patnIbhyAM saha rAjendra kailAsaM girima AzritaH || 3-104-9 ||

hk transliteration

स तप्यमानः सुमहत तपॊयॊगसमन्वितः आससाद महात्मानं तर्यक्षं तरिपुरमर्दनम ।। ३-१०४-१० ।।

sanskrit

'Longing for a son, he devoted himself to the practice of severe penances. While engaged in these rigorous austerities, he also immersed himself in the contemplative discipline known as Yoga.' ।। 3-104-10 ।।

english translation

sa tapyamAnaH sumahata tapòyògasamanvitaH AsasAda mahAtmAnaM taryakSaM taripuramardanama || 3-104-10 ||
