[लॊमष] तान उवाच समेतांस तु बरह्मा लॊकपितामहः गच्छध्वं विबुधाः सर्वे यथाकामं यथेप्सितम ।। ३-१०४-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Lomasa said: 'Then, assembled together, Brahma, the grandfather of all beings, addressed them: ‘Go, O gods, wherever your hearts desire and your intentions lead you.'' ।। 3-104-1 ।।

english translation

[lòmaSa] tAna uvAca sametAMsa tu barahmA lòkapitAmahaH gacchadhvaM vibudhAH sarve yathAkAmaM yathepsitama || 3-104-1 ||

महता कालयॊगेन परकृतिं यास्यते ऽरणवः जञातीन वै कारणं कृत्वा महाराज्ञॊ भगीरथात ।। ३-१०४-२ ।।

sanskrit

'It will take a long time for the ocean to return to its former state; the opportunity will arise through the descendants of the great king Bhagiratha. Upon hearing the words of the universal grandfather (Brahma), all the foremost gods departed, eagerly anticipating the day when the ocean would be filled once more.' ।। 3-104-2 ।।

english translation

mahatA kAlayògena parakRtiM yAsyate 'raNavaH jaJAtIna vai kAraNaM kRtvA mahArAjJò bhagIrathAta || 3-104-2 ||

[य] कथं वै जञातयॊ बरह्मन कारणं चात्र किं मुने कथं समुद्रः पूर्णश च भगीरथ परिश्रमात ।। ३-१०४-३ ।।

'Yudhishthira asked, ‘What was that occasion, O Sage? How did the descendants of Bhagiratha facilitate it? And in what way did Bhagiratha's intervention lead to the ocean being refilled?’' ।। 3-104-3 ।।

english translation

[ya] kathaM vai jaJAtayò barahmana kAraNaM cAtra kiM mune kathaM samudraH pUrNaza ca bhagIratha parizramAta || 3-104-3 ||

'O Sage, who regard your spiritual practices as your greatest treasure, O noble priest! I wish to hear, in detail, the account of the king's achievements as narrated by you.' ।। 3-104-4 ।।

etada icchAmya ahaM zaròtuM vistareNa tapòdhana kathyamAnaM tavayA vipra rAjJAM caritama uttamama || 3-104-4 ||

[व] एवम उक्तस तु विप्रेन्द्रॊ धर्मराज्ञा महात्मना कथयाम आस माहात्म्यं सगरस्य महात्मनः ।। ३-१०४-५ ।।

'Vaisampayana said: ‘Thus addressed by the magnanimous and virtuous king, the foremost among the priests began to recount the illustrious achievements of the noble king Sagara.’' ।। 3-104-5 ।।

[va] evama uktasa tu viprendrò dharmarAjJA mahAtmanA kathayAma Asa mAhAtmyaM sagarasya mahAtmanaH || 3-104-5 ||
