वरजतस तान विदित्वा तु पौराः शॊकाभिपीडिताः गर्हयन्तॊ ऽसकृद भीष्म विदुर दरॊण गौतमान ऊचुर विगतसंत्रासाः समागम्य परस्परम ।। ३-१-११ ।।

sanskrit

'The citizens, learning of their departure, were overwhelmed with sorrow and began to blame Bhishma, Vidura, Drona, and Gautama. Gathered together, they addressed each other with unflinching resolve.' ।। 3-1-11 ।।

english translation

varajatasa tAna viditvA tu paurAH zòkAbhipIDitAH garhayantò 'sakRda bhISma vidura daròNa gautamAna Ucura vigatasaMtrAsAH samAgamya parasparama || 3-1-11 ||

'Alas, our families, ourselves, and our homes are all lost, as the wicked Duryodhana, supported by the son of Suvala (Shakuni), Karna, and Dussasana, aspires to rule this kingdom.' ।। 3-1-12 ।।

'Indeed, our families, our ancestral traditions, our virtue, and our prosperity are all doomed under the rule of this sinful wretch and his equally vile supporters. How can happiness exist where these are absent?' ।। 3-1-13 ।।

nò ceta kulaM na cAcArò na dharmò 'rathaH kutaH sukhama yatra pApasahAyò 'yaM pApò rAjyaM bubhUSate || 3-1-13 ||

'Duryodhana bears enmity towards all superiors and has forsaken good conduct and quarrels even with his kin. Covetous, vain, and mean-spirited, he is inherently cruel.' ।। 3-1-14 ।।

'The entire earth is doomed if Duryodhana becomes its ruler. Therefore, let us go to where the merciful and noble sons of Pandu, who have controlled their passions, are victorious over their foes, possess modesty and renown, and are devoted to pious practices.' ।। 3-1-15 ।।
