कथं च राजपुत्री सा परवरा सर्वयॊषिताम पतिव्रता महाभागा सततं सत्यवादिनी वनवासम अदुःखार्हा दारुणं परत्यपद्यत ॥ ३-१-६ ॥
'And how did the princess, who was the best among women, devoted to her husbands, virtuous, and always truthful, endure that painful exile in the forest, despite being undeserving of such suffering?' ॥ 3-1-6 ॥
english translation
एतद आचक्ष्व मे सर्वं विस्तरेण तपॊधन शरॊतुम इच्छामि चरितं भूरि दरविण तेजसाम कथ्यमानं तवया विप्र परं कौतूहलं हि मे ॥ ३-१-७ ॥
'O Brahmana of great penance, tell me all this in detail, for I am eager to hear the story of those heroes, endowed with abundant prowess and splendor. My curiosity is truly immense.' ॥ 3-1-7 ॥
english translation
[व] एवं दयूतजिताः पार्थाः कॊपिताश च दुरात्मभिः धार्तराष्ट्रैः सहामात्यैर निर्ययुर गजसाह्वयात ॥ ३-१-८ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, "Thus defeated in the game of dice and incensed by the wicked sons of Dhritarashtra and their counselors, the sons of Pritha departed from Hastinapura."' ॥ 3-1-8 ॥

वर्धमानपुरद्वारेणाहिनिष्क्रम्य ते तदा उदङ्मुखः शस्त्रभृतः परययुः सह कृष्णया ॥ ३-१-९ ॥
'Exiting through the Vardhamana gate of the city, the Pandavas, armed and accompanied by Draupadi, journeyed northward.' ॥ 3-1-9 ॥

इन्द्रसेनादयश चैनान भृत्याः परिचतुर्दश रथैर अनुययुः शीघ्रैः सत्रिय आदाय सर्वशः ॥ ३-१-१० ॥
'Indrasena and others, with a retinue of fourteen servants and their wives, followed them in swift chariots.' ॥ 3-1-10 ॥
