That powerful great chariot-warrior would regularly rise at dawn and, after the night had passed, sit while questioning both brāhmaṇas and kṣatriyas.

english translation

“Is there anyone distinguished—someone equal to me—in combat: whether a śūdra, vaiśya, kṣatriya, or even a brāhmaṇa who bears weapons?”

english translation

Speaking thus, the king ranged over this earth, intoxicated with great arrogance, giving thought to no one else.

english translation

Then learned, unsparing brāhmaṇas—secure from fear on all sides—repeatedly restrained the king as he kept boasting again and again.

english translation

Though being restrained, he repeatedly questioned the twice-born; conceited and intoxicated by prosperity, he was then addressed by the brāhmaṇas.
