Those twice-born—ascetics, great-souled, and devoted to Vedic observances—became inflamed with indignation toward the king as he grew increasingly agitated.

english translation

The friendship of those two lion-like men extends across many births; you, O king, will never be their equal at any time.

english translation

Thus addressed, the king again questioned the twice-born: “Where are those two heroes? Of what birth are they? What are their deeds—and who, indeed, are they?”

english translation

The brāhmaṇas said: “We have heard that they are the ascetics Nara and Nārāyaṇa. They have come into the human world; contend with those two, O king.”

english translation

It is reported that those two great-souled ones, Nara and Nārāyaṇa, undertake an austere and indescribable discipline at Gandhamādana.
