द्वादशेमानि वर्षाणि वने निर्व्युषितानि नः । त्रयोदशं तथाज्ञातैः सजने परिवत्सरम्॥५-९३-४१॥
“For twelve years we fulfilled our term in the forest; and in the thirteenth year we lived in concealment, moving among people without being recognized.”
english translation
स्थाता नः समये तस्मिन्पितेति कृतनिश्चयाः । नाहास्म समयं तात तच्च नो ब्राह्मणा विदुः॥५-९३-४२॥
“We were resolved that, at that appointed time, the one who stands to us as a father would support us. Yet, dear sir, we did not violate the agreement—and the brāhmaṇas know this as well.”
english translation
तस्मिन्नः समये तिष्ठ स्थितानां भरतर्षभ । नित्यं संक्लेशिता राजन्स्वराज्यांशं लभेमहि॥५-९३-४३॥
“Therefore, at that appointed time, stand by us who have remained steadfast, O bull among the Bharatas, so that we—long burdened by hardship—may obtain our rightful share of sovereignty.”
english translation
त्वं धर्ममर्थं युञ्जानः सम्यङ्नस्त्रातुमर्हसि । गुरुत्वं भवति प्रेक्ष्य बहून्क्लेशांस्तितिक्ष्महे॥५-९३-४४॥
“You, who align governance with dharma and practical welfare, ought to protect us rightly. In deference to your senior authority, we have endured many hardships.”
english translation
स भवान्मातृपितृवदस्मासु प्रतिपद्यताम् । गुरोर्गरीयसी वृत्तिर्या च शिष्यस्य भारत॥५-९३-४५॥
Therefore, let your conduct toward us be as that of a mother and a father. O Bhārata, weightier still is the proper conduct of a teacher—and likewise that of a disciple.
