Standing amid an elephant corps and a force equipped with chariots and horses, the dull-witted Duryodhana—his anger momentarily quieted—imagines: “This entire earth has been conquered by me.”

english translation

Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s son hopes for unrivaled sovereignty over the earth. In him, mere conciliation is not to be found; he deems an aim “secured” even when it is not, imagining it already attained.

english translation

This earth has been overturned, as though ripened by Time: for Duryodhana’s cause, many desire to engage the Pāṇḍavas in battle. All warriors have assembled across the land—kings together with the rulers and guardians of their realms.

english translation

All these kings have long since become your adversaries, O Kṛṣṇa, and in earlier encounters were stripped of their strength. Out of fear of you, those heroes have taken refuge with Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s sons, firmly consolidated together with Karṇa.

english translation

All these combatants, having cast off restraint along with Duryodhana, have been set upon engaging the Pāṇḍavas. If you were to enter among them—this is not my considered view, O Dāśārha hero.
