That very human effort becomes the cause of a person’s attainments; and even in failure, that same personal exertion remains the uncertain factor within one’s action.

english translation

Matters are perceived one way by discerning poets who notice faults, yet they turn out otherwise—like the gusts of the wind.

english translation

Even a human undertaking that is well-advised, well-governed, and justified by reason may still be opposed by fate.

english translation

Even what fate has not accomplished can be countered by human effort. Cold and heat, rain, and likewise hunger and thirst, O Bhārata, are mitigated through exertion.

english translation

Whatever else a person, shaped by destiny, accomplishes by their own doing—therein one recognizes a distinguishing mark: the presence of unobstructed personal initiative.
