One endowed with hrī detests sin; for him śrī—prosperity and auspicious grace—ever increases. And so long as he remains possessed of śrī, so long does he truly remain a ‘person’ (pūruṣa) in the full sense.
english translation
One constant in dharma, inwardly composed, and ever capable in the disciplined execution of duty does not turn the mind toward adharma, nor does he engage in wrongdoing.
english translation
One who lacks hrī, or who is deluded, is—by the traditional norm—reckoned neither ‘woman’ nor ‘man’. He has no standing in dharma; he is treated as without entitlement, like a śūdra in the text’s social-legal idiom.
english translation
One endowed with hrī safeguards the gods, the ancestors, and also oneself. By that he attains ‘immortality’—enduring merit and renown; this is the culminating summit of meritorious action.
english translation
This I have seen directly in my own case, O Madhusūdana: cast out from the kingdom, I dwell in these habitations.
