As he spoke thus, the righteous king Yudhiṣṭhira said: “Your steadiness and your prowess—together with the Pāñcālas and the Pāṇḍavas—are relied upon by us all. We are fully committed; carry us through the coming battle.”

english translation

I know you, mighty-armed one, as firmly established in the kṣatriya dharma. You alone are competent and sufficient for the Kauravas who seek a deliberate engagement. Whatever course you ordain—let that be for our welfare, O scorcher of foes.

english translation

When troops fall back from battle—broken and seeking refuge—the hero who stands in the forefront and displays steadfast courage: such a man would be ‘bought’ even for a thousand; that station is truly the mark of one skilled in nīti, the art of statecraft.

english translation

You are indeed heroic, valiant, and bold, O bull among men; in battles, without doubt, you are the protector of those afflicted by fear.

english translation

As Kuntī’s son Yudhiṣṭhira, righteous in spirit, was speaking thus, Dhṛṣṭadyumna—his anxiety dispelled—spoke these words to me.
