प्रत्यादानं च राज्यस्य कार्यमूचुर्नराधिपाः । भवतः सानुबन्धस्य समुच्छेदं चिकीर्षवः॥५-५४-६॥
Those kings declared that the restoration of the kingdom must be carried out, and—intending the complete removal of you together with your adherents—spoke accordingly.

श्रुत्वा चैतन्मयोक्तास्तु भीष्मद्रोणकृपास्तदा । ज्ञातिक्षयभयाद्राजन्भीतेन भरतर्षभ॥५-५४-७॥
When Bhīṣma, Droṇa, and Kṛpa heard these words spoken by me, then—out of fear of the destruction of kinsmen—they were alarmed, O king, O bull among the Bharatas.

न ते स्थास्यन्ति समये पाण्डवा इति मे मतिः । समुच्छेदं हि नः कृत्स्नं वासुदेवश्चिकीर्षति॥५-५४-८॥
In my judgment, the Pāṇḍavas will not remain within the bounds of agreement; for Vāsudeva intends the complete overthrow of us all.

ऋते च विदुरं सर्वे यूयं वध्या महात्मनः । धृतराष्ट्रश्च धर्मज्ञो न वध्यः कुरुसत्तमः॥५-५४-९॥
Except for Vidura, all of you are liable to punitive destruction, O noble one; but Dhṛtarāṣṭra, who knows dharma, is not to be subjected to such a consequence, O best of the Kurus.

समुच्छेदं च कृत्स्नं नः कृत्वा तात जनार्दनः । एकराज्यं कुरूणां स्म चिकीर्षति युधिष्ठिरे॥५-५४-१०॥
Having brought about our complete overthrow, dear one, Janārdana intends to establish a single sovereignty of the Kurus under Yudhiṣṭhira.
