वशं नूनं गमिष्यन्ति भीमसेनबलार्दिताः । मम पुत्राश्च भृत्याश्च राजानश्चैव संजय॥५-५०-३६॥
Pressed by Bhīmasena’s force, my sons, my retainers, and even the kings will surely come under control, O Sañjaya.
english translation
येन राजा महावीर्यः प्रविश्यान्तःपुरं पुरा । वासुदेवसहायेन जरासंधो निपातितः॥५-५०-३७॥
He by whom, formerly, that king of great prowess—entering the inner palace with Vāsudeva’s assistance—brought down Jarāsandha.

कृत्स्नेयं पृथिवी देवी जरासंधेन धीमता । मागधेन्द्रेण बलिना वशे कृत्वा प्रतापिता॥५-५०-३८॥
This entire earth—like a goddess—was oppressed after being brought under control by the intelligent, powerful lord of Magadha, Jarāsandha.

भीष्मप्रतापात्कुरवो नयेनान्धकवृष्णयः । ते न तस्य वशं जग्मुः केवलं दैवमेव वा॥५-५०-३९॥
Through Bhīṣma’s might and through prudent policy, the Kurus sought to restrain the Andhakas and the Vṛṣṇis; yet they did not come under his sway—was it destiny (daiva) alone that thwarted it?
english translation
स गत्वा पाण्डुपुत्रेण तरसा बाहुशालिना । अनायुधेन वीरेण निहतः किं ततोऽधिकम्॥५-५०-४०॥
When he advanced, he was subdued by Pāṇḍu’s son—swift and strong-armed—by a heroic man who bore no weapon; what could be more astonishing than this?
