A prudent person should never, out of misplaced trust, go to another’s house at an improper time. Nor should one remain concealed at night in a public square; and one should not solicit a woman connected with the royal household.

english translation

One should not go to the private quarters of a person engaged in a sacrificial session, nor of one whose counsel has become entangled with improper associates. And one should not bluntly say, ‘I do not trust you’; rather, one should state one’s position with reasons.

english translation

In practical dealings, these are to be avoided: a harsh or resentful king, a promiscuous person, a royal servant, one’s son or brother (as parties in dispute), a widow with a young child, a soldier-for-hire, and one who lives on appropriated provisions.

english translation

Ten benefits attend one who is habitually clean through bathing: strength, good appearance, clarity of voice and complexion, pleasant touch and fragrance, purity, prosperity, delicacy of body, and excellence in women’s regard.

english translation

Six benefits attend one who eats in measured quantity: health, longevity, comfort, and strength. One’s offspring is also free from impairment, and people do not reproach such a person as deficient in vitality.
